Remember what it was like to be an awkward teenager? And remember how some things haven't really changed that much for you since then? Join proud dork Janet Varney as she explores the highs and lows of the bygone years with some of her favorite women as they talk their way through the terrible teens into adult-lescence.
Warning: This Podcast Contains Sincerity.
This week Boy of Summer and fellow only child Brandon Collins (Drunk Black History) takes JV from high school nautical arts to the fine streets of Manhattan and beyond, inspiring and delighting along the way!
Our first official Boy of Summer is JV’s wonderful and dear lifelong (from 4th grade onward!) friend, author Torran Anderson (Piñata Moon). Hear about the amazing work Torran is doing in partnership with the Navajo nation, and of course, memories that Torran and JV share from their own teen years in Tucson, AZ!
RERUN: Jameela Jamil
It’s one of those trip-on-a-plastic-bag, fall-on-your-face, lose-a-tooth good times with the fantastic Jameela Jamil (The Good Place), who shares the soft underbelly horrors of adolescence with JV with such humility and humor, you’ll want to marry her immediately. Now let’s go find a dumpster of leftovers to celebrate!
Another awesome Max Fun podcast crossover! It’s Drea Clark, from the currently accurately-named “Untitled Drea, Ify and Alonso Project!” Dive into some Jane Austen love, some Jill Scott worship, and the strange and wonderful gift of crawling inside the right Guillermo del Toro masterpiece!
It’s week 2 of Max Fun Drive! And what could be better than a backyard reenactment of “Death Becomes Her” starring this week’s guest, the hilarious Jo Firestone (Max Fun’s own Dr. Gameshow) and JV as “Mad” and “Hel”? NOTHING! But since they couldn’t make it happen (yet), enjoy this delightful episode of chatter about breads (the elusive potato and dutch crunch kinds), “Grease” conspiracy theories, and the weirdest romantic M.A.S.H. pairing yet. HIGHLY RECOMMEND! All the feels!
Absolutely love this podcast! I often find myself feeling like I’m part of the conversation. Janet Varney does an incredible job making sure each and every guest is relatable in one way or another. You can tell she genuinely cares! Every episode is unique - you never know whether you’ll be crying laughing, crying crying, nodding your head in agreement, or stroking your beard (imaginary or otherwise) in deep thought. Many episodes invoke a combination of all the feels! Truly a treasure to the world of podcasts!
