E3.6: All Things Are Possible, Guest Mayra Lopez The Last Tenth Podcast

    • Running

Mayra Lopez Garcia is a proud Mexican American, born and raised in South Los Angeles. She currently lives in Palmdale, CA. She works with the homeless families and individuals as a  housing stabilizer.   She started running in her junior year by joining the her high school cross-country team. As she started running, coming from a softball background, she slowly started to lose weight. As she started to see her body change running became an obsession, she wanted to run more and lose more weight. As a result she began to stop eating and developed the eating disorder, anorexia. She became very good at hiding her eating and exercise habits. Eventually Mayra's coach noticed her weight loss and encouraged her recovery.  Mayra says, "I am thankful that I was able to get out from my eating disorder, but it still hunts me here and there today. I catch myself comparing myself to others. I want others to know that any person who runs has a “runner’s body” no matter the weight, build, age, ability or health status. It took me some time, but I am thankful for my body per it has endured tough workouts, ran many races."   Mayra has run distances from  the 5k up to a 58 Mile race. She continues to run with F.A.C.T Team and her current coach. She qualified for and is training for Boston Marathon 2021 and the Rio De Lago 100 which are a month apart.  For Mayra, running has brought many good people into her life including her  fiancé, who proposed when he finished Angeles Crest 100 Miler in 2016.
