The Legend of Kaschey The Deathless: The Story That Inspired Lord Voldemort Fairies and Folklore
-
- Fiction
Fairies and Folklore recreates the Russian legend that inspired J.K. Rowling's famous villain, Lord Voldemort! The Legend of Kaschey The Deathless (also known as Kaschey The Immortal), tells the tale of an evil magician who hides his death in various objects so that he cannot be killed.
Influential in various cultures and times, this telling is based on Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's one act opera, "Kaschey the Deathless", in which Kaschey kidnaps a lovely princess while her true love travels the world to locate Kaschey's death and rescue his beloved. Rimsky-Korsakov (famous for Flight of the Bumblebee, Sheherazade, and others), later had a student, Igor Stravinsky, who used Kaschey as his evil villain in the epic and hugely influential ballet, The Firebird, and eventually became arguably the most influential classical composer of the 20th century.
