Sahara Rose on Demystifying Ayurveda and Manifesting Her Dreams

Sahara Rose on Demystifying Ayurveda and Manifesting Her Dreams

    Ayurveda.

Most of us have heard of this ancient health system, but not too many people in the U.S. truly understand what it is all about.

Fortunately, Sahara Rose (@iamsahararose) has made it her life's mission to demystify Ayurveda, and she has done it in a way that is very practical in today's day and age, taking into account GMOs, pesticides and the growing trend of a plant-based lifestyle.

Having become obsessed with Ayurveda at an early age, Sahara Rose went on to write two best-selling books on the topic, the first of which was The Idiot's Guide to Ayurveda and her most recent one is Eat Feel Fresh: A Contemporary, Plant-Based Ayurvedic Cookbook. And for both of these books, Deepak Chopra -- her idol since she was a teenager -- wrote the foreword.

As we discuss in our interview, the foundation of Ayurveda is the three doshas (energies or archetypes) -- kapha, vata and pitta. Yet, the true meaning or representation of these doshas extends far beyond what foods a person should eat. It provides an important framework that can guide us in every area of our life.

Aside from the fact that Sahara Rose has achieved incredible success in modernizing Ayurveda and reaching such a large audience in the process, it is her personal journey that I found the most inspirational. In the face of unrelenting pressure from her family to abandon her dream of bringing Ayurveda to the world, Sahara Rose refused to listen to outside voices and was guided by her intuition to persevere and that she was, in fact, on the correct path.

This is one very, very inspirational woman.

One of the least discussed but most dangerous threats to our health is ultrafine particles. These are the particles lurking in our homes but are not visible to the human eye. Unfortunately, they are also linked to cancer, cardiovascular disease and stroke.

There is no better air machine on the market to deal with ultrafine particles than the Intellipure, and I have been using this company's products years before I started writing about the organic food industry. In videos that I shot using a particle counter (a Class 1 medical device), I demonstrate the power of this machine versus two of the most well-known air filters on the market -- the Dyson and the Molekule.

When you see the results, you will see why the Intellipure is the only machine I will use and that it delivers better results than anything else that you can find.

Maria Marlowe -- Real Food Evangelist on How to Eat and Mistakes People Make with Food

Maria Marlowe (@mariamarlowe) is a Real Food Evangelist and the author of the excellent book The Real Food Grocery Guide. Maria's true talent is that she is able to articulate how to eat in a very approachable, easy-to-understand way.

In our conversation, Maria discusses her own health challenges with food during her teenage years, the importance of being a body detective, the biggest mistakes people make with food, and the one food that people should eat every single day.

Plus, she shares the amazing advice that her grandmother gave her when she was 15 years old, something that shaped her life at an early age.

#3 - Green Chef founder Michael Joseph on Building the Country's Leading Organic Meal Kit Service

#3 - Green Chef founder Michael Joseph on Building the Country's Leading Organic Meal Kit Service

No one blinks when you now talk about buying organic food online.

However, this was hardly the case a decade or so ago when food was almost entirely purchased at some type of retail location.

And there may be very few people in the country that know more about selling organic food directly to consumers than Michael Joseph, who is the founder of three direct-to-consumer organic food companies.

His most recent startup, Green Chef, raised more than $70 million in venture capital funding and grew to become the country's leading organic meal kit service. Last year, Green Chef was sold to Hello Fresh, a publicly traded meal kit company, for an undisclosed amount.

In this wide-ranging conversation on The Living Maxwell Podcast, I spoke with Michael Joseph about how Green Chef got started, the company's incredibly rapid growth, his experience in raising tens of millions of dollars in flip flops (yes, it's true), how the company brought unique digital marketing experience to this sector, and whether the mail kit space is actually a viable business or not.

Despite its struggles as of late, including the poor performance of the Blue Apron IPO, the meal kit industry remains a real interest to many people, and there are very few individuals that can speak to the nuances of this sector better than Michael Joseph -- an extremely dynamic, charismatic and successful organic food entrepreneur.

#2 - Sheryl O'Loughlin on Why She Left REBBL and Making Really Hard Decisions

#2 - Sheryl O'Loughlin on Why She Left REBBL and Making Really Hard Decisions

Sheryl O'Loughlin is one of the most open, honest and vulnerable CEOs I have ever met, and she is an incredible human being.

In this interview, which was recorded one day after I broke the story on Organic Insider about her stepping down from the company as CEO, Sheryl and I talked about a wide range of subjects -- why she left REBBL, how the company was started, REBBL's Brazil nut project in Latin America, REBBL's relationship with Not for Sale, and her long-time interest in human rights.

What was particularly revealing was when Sheryl went into detail about a difficult -- and controversial -- decision that she made very early on in her tenure as CEO. This really tested the relationship between her and company founder David Batstone for about 6 months, but it proved to be a defining moment for REBBL and changed the trajectory of the company entirely.

At the very end of our interview, I share a story with Sheryl that she had never heard before, and it was one where her act of kindness touched me in a profound way. To be honest, I got pretty choked up while recounting this.

    Please enjoy!

#1: Liana Werner-Gray on Persevering Through Tragedy

#1: Liana Werner-Gray on Persevering Through Tragedy

"I packed my bags from Australia and went to Los Angeles with $200 in my pocket. I didn't know anyone but just knew it would work out." -- Liana Werner-Gray

Liana Werner-Gray (@theearthdiet) is a very close friend and is also one of the strongest people I know. She also happens to take incredibly good care of me (i.e., feeds me) at the biggest organic trade shows, Expo West and Expo East! :-)

In the very first episode of The Living Maxwell Podcast, I interview Liana Werner-Gray, #1 best-selling author of three books (The Earth Diet, 10-Minute Recipes and Cancer-Free with Food) and an in-demand nutrition coach.

As with many people who find their way into the wellness world, Liana was faced with a very, very serious health condition in her teens and made the courageous decision to deal with it in a natural and holistic way -- against the wishes of conventional doctors.

But what I found to be even more inspirational about Liana is how she dealt with a tragic family incident at age 17, something that would have scarred most people for a lifetime. Instead, this tragedy helped shape Liana and gave her the strength to become the person she is today.

We also discuss Liana's upbringing in the outback of Australia where she was influenced by the Aboriginal people, how she made her way to the U.S., with only $200 in her pocket, and her journey from starting The Earth Diet blog to landing a publishing deal with Hay House, from where she ended up delivering three #1 best-selling books.

This episode is brought to you by my friends at Intellipure.
