  1. A Joyful Love Feast

    A Joyful Love Feast

What does it truly mean to pour out your life for Christ? In this message from the "Invitation to Joy" series through Philippians, we explore three key Greek words: agape, koinonia, and kenoo. These reveal the heart of what it means to follow Jesus with everything we have. Walking through Philippians chapters 2, 3, and 4, this message unpacks how Christ emptied Himself and became obedient to the point of death, and how we are called to do the same.  You'll be encouraged to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, to be anxious for nothing, and to discover that when you empty yourself for God's purposes, He fills you with an inexpressible joy. Whether you've been walking with the Lord for 40 years or are just beginning to sense His presence, this message will challenge you to find your place in the body of Christ and start pouring out for His glory. 0:00 Introduction 2:10 Overview of Philippians — Joy and the Proper Mindset 3:26 Three Greek Words — Agape, Koinonia, and Kenoo 6:31 Philippians 4 — Rejoice, Be Anxious for Nothing, and Think on These Things 8:45 Philippians 3 — Counting All Things as Loss to Gain Christ 9:59 Personal Testimony — Pressing On Through Broken Seasons 11:14 Philippians 2:1–18 — The Heart of the Message 13:47 What Is Consolation in Christ? 15:45 Why Consolation Is Here — Lives Poured Out in Service 17:31 The Kenosis — Christ Emptied Himself 20:05 Working Out Your Salvation with Fear and Trembling 22:25 The Joy of Being Emptied and Used by God 25:37 A Call to Pour Out Your Life as Easter Approaches 27:43 Invitation — The Holy Spirit and Learning to Be Led Support the show Made a decision to follow Jesus? 2. How To Find Joy When We Suffer

How To Find Joy When We Suffer

What does it look like to find real joy in the middle of suffering? In this sermon from our series "Invitation to Joy," we explore Philippians 1:27–29 and discover that biblical joy isn't the absence of pain, it's the presence of trust. Using the analogy of running a half marathon, we unpack how seeing the finish line changes the way we endure. The Apostle Paul, writing from a Roman prison, teaches the church at Philippi three powerful truths: joy is durable and anchored in our citizenship in God's kingdom, joy is formed through resistance and purposeful suffering, and joy becomes courageous communion when believers stand firm together. We also look at how Jesus modeled this in the Garden of Gethsemane: naming His pain, surrendering to the Father, and enduring the cross for the joy set before Him. Whether you're walking through a hard season, struggling with loss, or feeling isolated, this message is a reminder that suffering with purpose produces something deeper than comfort ever could. 0:00 Introduction — Running the Richmond Half Marathon 2:56 When the Finish Line Changes Everything 4:17 Paul's Letter from Prison — Suffering as a Gift 5:16 Joy Is Durable — Whatever Happens 7:04 Conduct Yourself as a Citizen of Heaven 9:30 Your Primary Citizenship Is the Kingdom of God 11:29 Comfort-Based Joy vs. Kingdom Joy 13:18 Joy Is Formed Through Resistance 15:07 Suffering and Meaningful Goals 17:19 We Don't Suffer for Suffering's Sake 18:52 Planting a Church and Choosing Discomfort 20:03 The Problem with Sin — False Promises of Comfort 21:58 Fasting, Lent, and Spiritual Training 23:19 Small Sufferings Build Spiritual Muscles 24:35 Joy Becomes Courageous Communion 27:08 You Never Suffer Alone 28:01 Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane 29:24 For the Joy Set Before Him — Enduring the Cross 30:10 Joy Is Not the Absence of Suffering 31:32 Prayer and Leaning into the Holy Spirit 34:40 Joy Is Coming — Weeping May Last for a Night 35:21 Closing Prayer Support the show Made a decision to follow Jesus? To Die is GainZZZ?

What does the Apostle Paul mean when he says "to die is gain"? In this powerful message from our series, An Invitation to Joy, we explore how understanding death biblically transforms the way we live today. Paul, writing from a Roman prison and facing possible execution, declares that death isn't the final word. Instead, he claims it's a doorway to gaining Christ's presence, permanence, and perfect fulfillment. We unpack why grief isn't a lack of faith but a sign of love, why the Bible calls death an enemy, and how Paul's shocking confidence in the face of death reveals what it means to live with real purpose. If you've ever wrestled with loss, grief, or wondered what makes Christianity more than just good advice, this message is for you. 00:00 Welcome & Introduction 00:32 The Quest for "Gains" 03:14 To Die Is Gain — Paul's Shocking Statement 04:25 More Than Good Advice — The Heart of the Gospel 06:31 Why Death Feels So Wrong 07:57 The Three Pains of Death 09:08 Jesus Wept — Tears Don't Cancel Faith 11:58 What Do We Actually Gain? 4. Joyful Confidence in Uncertain Times

    Joyful Confidence in Uncertain Times

How do you choose joy when your tomorrow looks terrifying? Whether you are facing a difficult medical report, a job layoff, or relational hurt, the Apostle Paul’s life shows us that uncertainty is inevitable, but misery is optional. In this message, Jacob continues our series, "An Invitation for Joy," by looking at Philippians 1:19. Even while chained in a Roman prison facing a potential death sentence, Paul remained full of joy. Key Takeaways from This Message: - Isolation is a joy-stealer that affects our physical, mental, and spiritual health. Paul’s joy was fueled by the prayers of his community. - While "rows" are for instruction, "circles" are where connection and life change happen. - Paul relied on the Holy Spirit as both the "Spirit of Jesus" (providing empathy for suffering) and the "Spirit of Christ" (providing power for victory). - We often lose our joy by obsessing over results we can’t control. Joy rushes in when we focus on faithfulness and leave the outcomes to God. Scripture References: Philippians 1:19 — "For I know that through your prayers and God’s provision of the Spirit of Jesus Christ, what has happened to me will turn out for my deliverance."  Hebrews 11:1 — Faith as evidence of things unseen. Job 13:16 — Paul’s source of confidence in vindication. Declaration for the Series: "I can’t change yesterday. I can’t control the future. But I can choose joy today."
