relevant and thoughtful news
update: This is the best local news program in this city period. They combine a hotlist format with a long format interview with locals, some times a us senator and sometimes with local folks that probably wouldnt find an equivelent media oppportunity. A longtime public radio supporter, I recently dipped back into OPB's local/NPR morning news and was reminded why I cant stomach its tepid political coverage, irrelevant cultural coverage, and shallow state and local political reporting ((Jeff and Emily tell you the bill # and where it is in the leg process. OPB doesnt). The Local is so much better. Jeff Smith is a great interviewer and commentator.
Thanks Jeff Emily and all Xray! You go great with my workday coffee and a bagel.

really glad xray is doing this podcast. it helps me catch my favorite xray programming
xray does a great job of covering news that is truly relevant to Oregonians and goes to a depth and sophistication that is rare in news media.
A great public service
The local is by turns informative, humorous, solemn and bizarre. The team at X-ray have provided us with a terrific source for local news, something that has been strategically chipped away at nationally for the last twenty years. In thirty easily digestible minutes, you can get a pretty clear idea of what’s happening in the area, as well as what’s happened here in the past. Every part of the country should be so lucky as to have a “the local” of their own.
Great, accessible local news
I’ve taken to waking up, putting my headphones in and taking my dog around the block while I listen to the calming voice of Jefferson Smith running through yesterday’s news. Sometimes I don’t listen past that. Sometimes I do. Depends on what’s going on. But his commentary and context for what’s going on in the greater Portland is incredibly insightful. I wish I knew about this earlier - I only found it because I chanced across an interview Jefferson was doing on the radio recently. Anyway, this podcast is definitely worth you’re time if you live in NW Oregon, SW Washington or care about local news in those areas — the Quick Six Local Rundown is absolutely the best part of this.
