From March 22nd to the 25th, Lorin Gallery will be at Art Central Hong Kong, exhibiting new and classical works by artists who explore the visual language and iconology of contemporary life as reinvented continuously. This year’s exhibition marks the 5th presentation of Lorin Gallery at Art Central HK, one of the most important annual art events in Asia, and a global partner of Art Basel. Bringing to the viewers and collectors a series of genre-bending works that incorporate the unique and provocative visual elements including cartoons, street arts and emojis, Lorin Gallery’s booth at B5 will present paintings by Suzuki Takako, Christian Quintin, Willem Jacques Hoeffnagel, Socko, Suanjaya Kencut, Vincent Arnold, Salome Rigvava and David Kaye. In this podcast, you will hear three of Lorin’s artists, Salome Rigvava, Willem Hoeffnagel and Christian Quintin join a conversation with editor Luxi. Salome, Willem and Christian will revisit the initial impulse and creative tendency that has led them to an artistic career, and in Christian Quintin’s own words, “one does not choose to be an artist.” Also in the conversation, the artists talk about the ways they engage with their own age, culture and political situation through art, and their choice to transcend it. Salome Rigvava is an artist originally from Georgia, East Europe. On the relics of lies and fear, her works grope a returning to the intimate discussion silenced by political and societal taboos. Willem Hoeffnagel tries to ennoble cartoon, the inclusive and democratic visual form, through combining it with classical medium. His anthropomorphic central figure is an intentional placeholder for contemporary individuals who find an enclave in anonymity. Christian Quintin is a French painter, poet. Beyond the roaring 70s, Christian’s visual language resides in the tender, lyrical, and meandering representation that is simultaneously ancient and futuristic. All discussed works and much more will be on view from March 22nd to 25th at Booth A5, Art Central Hong Kong.
