The Martin Lastrapes Show Podcast Hour is the show that may or may not be an hour long, depending on your perception of time and how much Martin has to say. It's both a silly and earnest look into the mind of award-winning novelist Martin Lastrapes as he talks about writing, publishing, and most anything else he finds interesting.
Episode 230: m.a. Arana
m.a. Arana is a writer, poet, and editor from the Los Angeles area. She has published many poems and short stories, and recently published her debut novel, Winged Clipped. Martin and m.a. first met over a decade ago at a creative writing workshop that Martin was teaching; m.a. was in attendance as an aspiring author, and now, all these years later, she joins Martin on the podcast to chat about her new book, her writing process, and her first public event to launch Wing Clipped.
Episode 229: Martin Interviews ChatGPT
Martin interviews ChatGPT, an artificial intelligence chatbot trained to generate natural language responses to human questions. During the interview, Martin asks questions such as, "Are you an evil computer intent on taking over the world?" and "Who is Martin Lastrapes?" The answers will astound you! Martin also asks ChatGPT about its favorite movies and what kind of novel it would like to write.
Episode 228: The Future Bank Robber
Just in time for Christmas (if that sort of thing matters to you)! In this episode Martin explains the classic narrative arc…in so far a she understands it, which includes a lot of Star Wars references (good luck, listener). He also reads from his blog article "The Future Bank Robber," which reflects on choices and consequences in storytelling.
Episode 227: Healing Halloween
HAPPY HALLOWEEN! In the finale of his very special three-episode Halloween eleganza podcast spectacular, Martin reflects on his month-long 2022 horror movie marathon. He also goes into the MartinLastrapes.com vault to revisit his favorite Halloween blog post, "Healing Halloween."
Episode 226: Sin City
Do you know about the tunnels beneath Las Vegas? In PART 2 or this very special three-episode Halloween eleganza podcast spectacular, Martin shares an exclusive audio reading of his spooky short story, "Sin City."
Episode 225: Belinda's Edge
To celebrate the spooky season, Martin is presenting a very special three-episode Halloween eleganza podcast spectacular! In this episode, Martin gives an exclusive audio reading of the darkest, most twisted short story he's ever written: "Belinda's Edge"
Awesome author and amazing podcast
This is my favorite podcast.
Nice and mellow about topics I like!
I nice, mellow podcast that keeps its own pace. No hurry. No fuss. I sit back and relax to conversations about topics I like: comics, vampires, horror, and wherever else the trail goes. This is more of a journey podcast than a destination podcast, and it’s great for long commutes in traffic.
Great! (Regardless of one's perception of time)
This show is easily one of my favorite podcasts. The funny thing is, I’m not a fan of wrestling, I don’t really read comics, and I’ve never really been that interested in horror—all core topics of this podcast. And yet, even though I’m not part of the target audience for those topics, I still tune in every week. The host, Martin Lastrapes, is engaging and entertaining and manages to book fascinating guests like nobody’s business. Anybody who has an interest in entertainment (movies, books, comics, television, and so on) is bound to connect with some aspect of the show, especially if you are a fan of or do any sort of writing. And here’s a tip: try a few episodes with topics or guests that wouldn’t normally be interesting to you. I bet you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how much you enjoy them. Full disclosure: I’m a friend of Martin. But even if I didn’t know him, I would still recommend this podcast. Whether you’re a reader, writer, fan of any sort of entertainment, or just a fan of podcasts, this show will almost certainly have something for you to enjoy.
