Catching up with Travis Pastrana and his latest venture, Circuit 199

    Travis Pastrana never rests.
If he is not racing, jumping, building a stunt, or chasing down his two daughters, you can probably be sure he's working on something new.  And we caught up with him to find out!

Enter Circuit 199 in Sudlersville.  It's a state of the art racing facility  to train top drivers and to teach the new batch. It's a Progression Park where FMX, BMX, and skateboarders can hone their skills and take them to the next level. And it's a Pump Track and skills course to promote fitness to youth using the track for bicycles, skateboards, or scooters.   And of course there is plenty of other entertainment planned as well.

When Travis brought Nitro Circus here in 2017 it meant the world to him to finally perform at home.  And now he wants to continue giving back to Maryland--his home.

Circuit 199 could open as early as next spring, but the target is to be open by 2022.

Have a listen and get excited!

Beercast: Devils Backbone is smashing it this Independence Day

Beercast: Devils Backbone is smashing it this Independence Day

This is a Crabcake from The Maryland Crabs! What is a Crabcake? Well, it's a very short snippet of something you need to know. It might be 5 minutes long..or it might be 20....or longer in this case, because..well...beer! In any event, enjoy your Maryland Crabcake!
Today, we continue our monthly series (no set schedule other than monthly) about beer.  We have a huge distributor of beer right here in Annapolis--Katcef Brothers Inc. and they have a ton of experts on hand to de-mystify beer for us.  Now, full disclosure--I like beer! I like beer a lot!  But, I am not a beer snob and a Bud Light will suit me just fine.
The Orange Crush is a Maryland drink. But they have been hard to take out on the boat, or enjoy in the back yard--until now.  This month, Bobby Rohla from Devils Backbone joins us to talk about the distilling end of Devil's Backbone and specifically the Orange Smash--perfect for tossing in the cooler this summer. And like last month, we have some incredible rebates for you!  See below!

SECU and some financial advice for the Class of 2020

SECU and some financial advice for the Class of 2020

The Class of 2020 is ending their high school or college life in a weird time. The job market is questionable. The stock market is questionable. And we are in the midst of a pandemic. Without a doubt, it is a tough time; but also without a doubt, our young adults graduating this year will overcome this and thrive--we're counting on it. And today we have some help.
Sarah Ryan is the Head of Community Outreach for SECU (formerly known as the State Employee's Credit Union) and she has perhaps the greatest gift we can give our graduates--some financial thoughts to savings and the future.  We talk about the work SECU is doing in the community and for their members (it's pretty easy to be a member); but she gives some solid suggestions for gifts for today's graduates that will change their financial world!

Moving forward with The Village at Providence Point

Moving forward with The Village at Providence Point

Last September,  we spoke with Larry Bradshaw who is the CEO of National Lutheran Communities & Services and the man behind the project now known as The Village at Providence Point in Annapolis.  A lot has happened since then and today, we check in with Bradshaw as the project seems to be headed into the final stretch of the approval process.
Today we learned that they has submitted their plans to the City of Annapolis after working with the Stop Crystal Springs (opposition group) and the City to address most of the concerns. There are two remaining concerns that are still undecided as it is a decision (guidance) that needs to be provided by the City. If all goes well, Bradshaw thinks that construction might be able to start in the early part of 2022.

While on the same property, this is NOT anywhere close to the same project as Crystal Springs. Along with a change of names to The Village at Providence Point, this project has been downsized in the number of residents and in the general footprint of the project.

Solid podcast

Albeit a bit Annapolis biased. On the other hand, they know Maryland politics and even interviewed Governor Hogan (my man with a plan for 2020)

Well done

Tim and John and their guests make keeping up with the real issues in Maryland and especially Annapolis easy and fun. I appreciate their insights even when I don't agree. Their recent series on the candidates for election in Annapolis were outstanding. Major kudos for the work to put that together.

The podcasts are supported by a website and a couple of Facebook pages. They use Flash for links to their podcasts from Facebook. Flash is evil. -1 star for that. Sorry guys. Technology fail. I shouldn't have to reboot to listen to your podcast online. Podcasts work fine through iTunes but notifications of updates are sporadic - that's an Apple problem not theirs.

Keep up the good work and let me know if you want to talk about boats and boating.
