    Steven Spielberg Almost Made...

    Steven Spielberg Almost Made...

Alex, Matt, and Rocco each break down a favorite project that Steven Spielberg almost made throughout his long and storied career. An incredibly expensive adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson's Robopocalypse is Alex's pick, since he once got a moment to discuss the project with Michael Bay, who inherited the script (and some leftover sets) from Spielberg.

Matt reveals Spielberg's fascination with modern toilet innovator, Thomas Crapper, and a possible film based on the book Flushed with Pride, before diving deep on what SHREK would have looked like if Spielberg made it back in the 1990s with Bill Murray and Steve Martin.

Then, Rocco brings in a Michael Crichton adaptation of PIRATE LATITUDES, a no-fun realism take on PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN that sounds like it was based on Jimmy Buffett song (even if it wasn't).

And that's the end of our new mini-marathon, folks! This summer, we're gettin' in the ring with Steven for the SPIELBERG SUMMER SLAM! We're hitting up his incredible run of blockbusters from the genre-defining JAWS (1975) up through his hand-wave screen technology-introducing MINORITY REPORT (2002)!

Minority Report (2002) - Spielberg Summer Slam!

Minority Report (2002) - Spielberg Summer Slam!

Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise finally team up to pre-cog the future of our real-life surveillance state with this ultra-paranoid sci-fi thriller from the GOAT of that exact sub-sub-genre, Philip K. Dick!

Do all of the visual effects and fake-outs still hold up almost 20 years later after MINORITY REPORT blew up the 2002 summer blockbuster? Maybe not, but the ice-cold vision of a tomorrow without social media is fascinating and that murder's row of supporting performances from Max von Sydow, Samantha Morton, Colin Farrell (and his chewing gum), Tim Blake Nelson, Neal McDonough... Not to mention, Lois Smith goin' in for the kiss?! I'm giving away too much, just listen.

Saving Private Ryan (1998) Part Two - Spielberg Summer Slam!

Saving Private Ryan (1998) Part Two - Spielberg Summer Slam!

We pick up the second half of our conversation about SAVING PRIVATE RYAN (1998) with the incredibly epic and ultra-violent Normandy Beach sequence that saw Steven Spielberg put all of his technical skill and wizardry behind the camera to create the most realistic portrayal of this turning point in World War II and world history. Plus, we finally get to Rocco's Connections Corner that has a couple of surprises from Matt.

Saving Private Ryan (1998) Part One - Spielberg Summer Slam!

Saving Private Ryan (1998) Part One - Spielberg Summer Slam!

Matt has been preparing for this episode his entire life, so we're dedicating TWO PARTS to cover Steven Spielberg's epic World War II sad-venture film, SAVING PRIVATE RYAN (1998). Alex and Rocco join Matt to discuss how Spielberg and writer Robert Rodat crafted the "documentary realism" approach to the true story of the Niland Brothers, why Tom Hanks decided it was time to take his friendship with Steve to the next level, the trial-by-fire boot camp that the military advisor Dale Dye put Vin Diesel, Giovanni Ribisi, Jeremy Davies, Adam Goldberg, Edward Burns, Barry Pepper, and Tom Sizemore through, which almost convinced a few of them to quit, and who almost played their roles instead.

Next week, we'll continue with Saving Private Ryan Part Two, kicking off with a behind-the-scenes breakdown of how the Normandy Beach battle sequences were created.

Jurassic Park (1993) - Spielberg Summer Slam!

Jurassic Park (1993) - Spielberg Summer Slam!

In 1993 filmmaker Steven Spielberg made dinosaurs walk and the style of blockbuster that he had helped create completely extinct. JURASSIC PARK (1993) is a film that changed it all, including the lives of your hosts, Alex, Matt, and Rocco, especially when it came to the toys and their DINO DAMAGE! We detail how Michael Crichton, David Koepp, Dennis Muren, George Lucas, Kathleen Kennedy, John Williams, and Stevie Spielberg made it all happen, why we fell in love with Alan Grant (Sam Neill) and Ellie Sattler (Laura Dern), and why this might be the worst franchise in history after JURASSIC PARK: DOMAIN-- Err,I mean, JURASSIC WORLD DOMINION.

Gina I. ,

Hold on to your butts…

I’m biased, because I’ve been a guest on this podcast twice, but I also listen to the episodes I’m NOT on, and with my busy schedule, that’s the best review there is! I love the deep dive Alex, Matt, and Rocco do every week. I learn new stuff even about movies I thought I already knew EVERYTHING about.

This show is a great blast of nostalgia, movie knowledge, and nerdy Easter eggs that will satisfy the snobbiest film snob and the noobiest noob. There are #nostinkers in this bunch.

An incredibly insightful review show.

This isn’t you average movie review podcast. These are truly three filmmakers giving insights into the filmmaking process that I never would have considered. In addition there is a great deal of interesting trivia that I was unaware of. This really is my favorite movie review podcast.
