We believe in a New 'P&L' for business: one focused as much on Principles & Leadership as Profit & Loss, because we know that if your principles are right and aligned with your purpose, and your leadership has clarity of vision and is strong and empathetic, then your business will be in profit and not in loss in many ways.
Each week we interview entrepreneurs and business people to understand their views on the importance of Principles and Leadership, and how to work together to build more productive, collaborative, creative and ultimately successful businesses. www.principlesandleadership.com

The New P&L TO THE POINT: 10 minutes on the Impact of Culture on Commercial Success

Welcome to this week's The New P&L TO THE POINT. The New P&L TO THE POINT is a weekly podcast series where, in around 10 minutes each Friday, we break down the key elements of our weekly The New P&L conversations with industry leaders and entrepreneurs.  We offer an opinion on the key points from the conversations and how our listeners may practically apply them in their businesses.

Today’s episode of The New P&L TO THE POINT breaks down and analyses the brilliant The New P&L Deep Discussions Roundtable explores the impact of culture on commercial success.

In 2020, global brand consulting and design agency, Landor & Fitch conducted a series of interviews with senior executives from some of the world’s most exciting and fastest-growing ‘Unicorn’ tech companies to understand the critical and powerful role culture plays in their business. The findings were outlined in Landor & Fitch’s ‘Culture is Brand, Brand is Culture: How Unicorns achieved success’ Report.

This week’s roundtable discussion brought together the two authors of the Report as well as two of the Unicorn brands themselves to discuss the role culture continues to play in their success. Today on The New P&L TO THE POINT we discuss the key points raise in that discussion.

Welcome to The New P&L TO THE POINT - a weekly podcast series where, in around 10 minutes, we break down the key elements of our weekly The New P&L conversations with industry leaders and entrepreneurs.  We offer an opinion on the key points from the conversations and tips on how our listeners may practically apply them in their businesses.

Today's The New P&L TO THE POINT analyses The New P&L conversation with the inspirational Bayo Adelaja, founder and CEO of Do It Now Now.

We start by discussing the role Do It Now Now plays at the intersection of entrepreneurship, leadership, and social action; looking at how Bayo and her team are helping young black entrepreneurs increase their health and happiness and what this means in practical terms.

We then consider the challenges many entrepreneurs have with access to, and support from, the innovation accelerators and incubators whose frameworks are too tightly designed to embrace a diverse range of entrepreneurs. Finally, we consider the customer-first focus that underpins everything that Do It Now Now delivers and the initiatives it offers, a focus that is based on ‘doing what is right, not what is operationally easy.’

The New P&L speaks to Bayo Adelaja, CEO of Do It Now Now

On this week’s episode of The New P&L, we speak to Bayo Adelaja, CEO of Do It Now Now - an open innovation organisation committed to bringing social empowerment to Black communities and entrepreneurs across the globe.

Bayo Adelaja founded Do it Now Now in 2016 in response to gaps in the support available to Black innovators building tech companies and social enterprises in the UK and across Africa. The initiatives Bayo developed for Do it Now Now have led to awards from both Harvard University and Oxford University's Business Schools for her work to create and foster opportunities for under-served communities through technology. Three of the initiatives Bayo has designed to support underrepresented people in tech, have also been named "Top in Europe" by FT-backed digital news platform, Sifted.

In 2018, Bayo was named one of the ‘Most Influential Women in Social Entrepreneurship’ in the UK by NatWest Bank, and she has designed the UK’s first-ever enterprise support program for women of colour, the BAME Female Founders Incubator for Hatch Enterprise. Over the last six years, Bayo has worked with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Google and many other international organisations and global brands, offering her wealth of experience and knowledge on open innovation, mentoring, educating business on diversity and inclusion, and delivering crucial social impact programs.

Today we discuss with Bayo her own entrepreneurial journey and what led to her establishing Do It Now Now; the challenges faced by entrepreneurs and tech innovators from underrepresented communities in terms of access to support, funding and investment; the importance of building innovation accelerators and incubators that are fit for purpose for all entrepreneurs; the definition of Open Innovation and why it is fundamental to Do It Now Now’s operational model; as well as inspirational examples of some of the young Black entrepreneurs Bayo is working with in The UK and Africa who are playing their part in building a better world.

The New P&L TO THE POINT on Perspective, Value and Mastermind Groups

The New P&L TO THE POINT on Perspective, Value and Mastermind Groups

Welcome to a special edition of The New P&L TO THE POINT - a weekly podcast series where, in around 10 minutes, we break down the key elements of our weekly The New P&L conversations with industry leaders and entrepreneurs.  We offer an opinion on the key points from the conversations and tips on how our listeners may practically apply them in their businesses.

Today's The New P&L TO THE POINT analyses The New P&L conversation with John Lee Dumas, host of the phenomenally successful Entrepreneurs On Fire podcast series.

We start by breaking down the quote attributed to Albert Einstein “Try not to become a person of success, but rather a person of value” and what it means in a business context – how you add value each step of the way in business to ensure you are ‘offering the best solution to a real problem’; we consider the powerful role perspective plays in business decision-making and the need to be self-aware enough to recognise how you can use your perspective to your advantage; and the crucial role Mastermind Groups play in the personal and professional development of entrepreneurs and all business people.
