At the age of just 19, Adisha Verma left her mother and younger siblings in Chandigarh and moved to Auckland to study IT. It wasn’t what she’d planned for her future, but she had a role to play to support her family. Despite loneliness and culture shock, Adisha cracked on building a career and a family. 16 years later, life is very different and she’s now returning to her first career choice, studying to be a nurse. The New Wave is a diversity storytelling project by Wintec School of Media Arts researchers Cate Prestidge and Paul Nelson. This podcast is made with the support of Free FM 89.0 If you’d like to know more about the project, or get involved, contact cate.prestidge@wintec.ac.nz
