The film has received positive reviews from critics and is now playing in theaters. "Project Hail Mary" is a 2026 American science fiction adventure film produced and directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, and written by Drew Goddard, based on the 2021 novel by Andy Weir. It stars Ryan Gosling (who also produced the film), Sandra Hüller, Lionel Boyce, Ken Leung, and Milana Vayntrub. The film follows Ryland Grace, a man who awakens on an interstellar spacecraft with no memory of how he arrived there. The initial inspiration for the film came during the production of the duo's 2007 short film "Madame Tutli-Putli," when a prop necklace unexpectedly fell apart, scattering pearls across the set as they filmed the climactic scene. The film has received critical acclaim and is nominated at the 98th Academy Awards in the category of Best Animated Short Film. Amazing resource for staying up on what’s going on in film, especially new releases and awards - but what I love most about this podcast is the hosts’ obvious pure love and enthusiasm for the movies. They’re all just genuine people, and there’s a refreshing lack of the smugness and bored/ironic in-jokiness that tends to plague certain other popular film podcasts. Highly recommended especially for those who love movies but don’t enjoy filmbro vibes, lol.
