Building an Awesome Practice with Dr. Sandra Diaz

Building an Awesome Practice with Dr. Sandra Diaz

Welcome to episode 006 of The Dental Marketing Podcast. This week we talked with Dr. Sandra Diaz about how to build an awesome practice.

Dr. Sandra Diaz is the founder of Dental Avenu—a boutique family practice dedicated to providing the best-in-class dental care.

Dr. Diaz's passion is esthetic dentistry, creating stunning healthy smiles. She is a Doctor of Medicine Dentistry -DMD from Nova Southeastern University and holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Florida International University. Having this psychology background allows her to provide a higher level of understanding and guidance to patients of all ages with dental anxiety.

Aside from being great with adult patients; Dr. Diaz loves children. She is a firm believer that stress-free first dental visits are crucial for their trust and compliance as dental patients for the rest of their lives. Preventive is also a big part of her approach; educating patients is her main goal.

Here’s just a taste of what we talked about today:

    STARTING OWN PRACTICE

One thing that made Dr. Diaz start her own practice is realizing that it's hard to make a difference and give quality care to patients when you work as an associate.

She says, "It's always the best when you have your practice and you can set it up exactly how you want it with all the equipment that you want and give yourself enough time to give the quality care, and really bond with each patient."

TIPS FROM DR. DIAZ FOR STARTING YOUR OWN PRACTICE

Dr. Diaz said, "The most challenging part of opening your own practice is learning the business side. Unfortunately, that is not taught in school. We have the knowledge about the industry, and the passion but the business side, especially insurance and billing and all of that are not part of it."

Her advice when starting your own practice is to gain some business knowledge before you go on your own and don't just be an associate—own it. Learn everything you can learn and give everything you can give because that's just going to make you the best business owner.

In our discussion, they open up about tips for marketing your services as well as building a top-notch team that will help you reach new levels of growth. Tune into this episode to hear what these experts recommend!

Practices have come a long way over the years and technology plays a crucial role. Dr. Cohen and Dr. Kotecki understand that one of the most important aspects of running a successful practice is having strong partnerships with all stakeholders, from colleagues to patients. Good communication and compatibility are essential for creating an environment that feels like part of the community.

Their advice for opening or taking over a new practice is to focus on need rather than affluence, have good communication from the start, and embrace technology to enhance the patient experience. What Is A Fractional COO & How Can It Help Grow Your Dental Practice?

What Is A Fractional COO & How Can It Help Grow Your Dental Practice?

In this episode of The No BS Dental Marketing Podcast, I had the pleasure of talking to Kevin Wheeler, the founder of Simplified COO, about what fractional COO is and how it can help your dental practice. Kevin shares his wealth of knowledge and experience in the fractional COO space and offers great tips for those considering this service.

As dental and orthodontic practices become increasingly competitive, the concept of a Fractional COO may come in handy. The Fractional COO is like a part-time Chief Operating Officer; they help by offering expertise in business operations and strategies to assist practice owners in reaching their goals.

The main focus of a Fractional COO is on increasing efficiency and optimization in business operations, such as team effectiveness, compliance regulations, managing finances, budget planning, and creating effective marketing plans.

Kevin discussed some of the key benefits of hiring a Fractional COO that included freeing up the time of practice owners to focus on dentistry while relying on the skill sets of an experienced dental professional for business operations advice and guidance.

We also touched upon how this type of service could help with problem-solving related to existing issues within the practice that would take costly non-productive time away from staff when handled internally. Overall, utilizing a Fractional COO can be an excellent way for dental practices to become more efficient and maximize any opportunities for growth or improvement within their business.

Other subjects we covered on the show:

Kevin gives advice to those coming out of the dental industry post-covid and shares his thoughts on the state of the industry as a whole. He also shares how he enjoys working with practices and helping them grow, but sees a lot of turnover between generations in terms of dentists retiring and new ones taking their place.Lastly, Kevin offers marketing tips for bringing in new patients to dental practices.
