#42 What I Took Away from a Veterinary Ozone Conference

In this episode of The Non-Traditional Veterinarian, we’re breaking down one of the most talked-about integrative therapies right now: ozone therapy. After attending a recent conference, I walk you through what ozone therapy actually is (and what it’s not), how it works in the body, and where it’s showing up in real clinical cases, from chronic ear infections to arthritis and gut health. Whether you're a pet owner exploring alternative options or a veterinary professional curious about integrating ozone into practice, this episode gives you a clear, grounded understanding without the fluff.  What You’ll Learn -What ozone therapy actually is and why it’s not just “air purification” -How ozone works as a biological response modifier -Common conditions where ozone is being used in veterinary medicine -Different ways ozone can be administered -Conditions Commonly Supported with Ozone   Ozone therapy fits really well into a root-cause, whole-body approach, especially for pets dealing with chronic inflammation, recurring infections, or when conventional options aren’t giving clear answers. It’s not about replacing conventional medicine. It’s about expanding the toolbox and using the right tool for the right patient. Enjoyed This Episode? Share it with a fellow pet parent or veterinary professional who’s ready to think beyond the conventional approach. #41 The Case No One Could Solve… Until We Looked Deeper- Jake Distasio

What do you do when your dog reacts to everything… food, environment, even everyday life? That was "Jake". In this episode I’m joined by Jake’s mom, Carla, to share his story, a case that was complex, frustrating, and at times felt like there were no clear answers. Jake struggled for years with chronic GI issues, allergies, vomiting, and constant flare-ups that didn’t fully resolve despite trying multiple approaches. This conversation isn’t just about what Jake was dealing with, it’s also about what happens when you stop accepting cookie-cutter answers and start looking deeper on a personalized level. What shifted when we began approaching Jake’s health through a more intentional integrative lens. From food sensitivities and gut health to environmental factors like mold and toxins, this episode highlights how chronic symptoms are often layered, and why true healing takes time, patience, and a different way of thinking. Most importantly, we share what Jake is like now, and why progress doesn’t always look linear, but can still be incredibly meaningful. In this episode, we cover: • What Jake’s health looked like before we started working together • The emotional toll of managing a chronically sensitive dog • Why “normal” test results don’t always mean optimal health • The role of diet, gut health, and environmental factors • How small changes created meaningful shifts over time • What Jake is like today • Advice for pet owners who feel stuck or frustrated If your dog has ongoing gut issues, allergies, or symptoms that never seem fully resolved, this episode will likely resonate with you.  Links: Book your 1:1 nutrition consultation today Book your 1:1 holistic in home visit today Watch this episode on YouTube

#40 The Hidden Gut Effects of Omeprazole: What It’s Really Doing to Your Pet’s Microbiome

Omeprazole is one of the most commonly prescribed medications in veterinary medicine, and it often is for good intent. It can be helpful in the right situations. But what happens when it’s used long-term or without a clear reason? In this episode, I break down what omeprazole is actually doing inside your pet’s body beyond just “reducing stomach acid.” We talk about how it shifts the gut environment, alters the microbiome, and why that matters for overall health. I also dive into one of the lesser-known downstream effects: how acid suppression can reduce beneficial bacteria like Peptoclostridium hiranonis, which plays a key role in bile acid conversion and gut protection. When that balance is disrupted, it can open the door to dysbiosis and opportunistic overgrowth. This is not about fear, it’s about awareness. Because when we understand the full picture, we can make more intentional, informed decisions for our pets. If your pet has ever been on omeprazole (or is currently on it), this is an episode you don’t want to miss. What You’ll Learn: • What omeprazole is  • Why stomach acid is essential for digestion and protection • How acid suppression changes the gut microbiome • How reduced bile acid conversion can contribute to dysbiosis • The potential long-term ripple effects on gut health and immunity • Why omeprazole is often overused in pets • How to start thinking more intentionally about gut health and medications If this episode made you rethink your pet’s gut health, share it with a fellow pet parent. #39 Why It's Actually a Good Thing When Your Vet Makes Money

Talking about money in veterinary medicine can feel uncomfortable. but it's an important conversation. In this episode of The Non-Traditional Veterinarian, I'm sharing why your veterinarian being financially healthy is actually a positive thing for your pet! Somewhere along the way, veterinary medicine developed the expectation that vets should dedicate their lives to animals without talking about the business side of care. But the reality is that sustainable veterinary practices create better medicine, more resources, and more options for pets and their families. When veterinarians are able to invest in their businesses, they can expand services, pursue advanced education, and bring new tools and testing into practice. That ultimately benefits the animals they care for. In this episode, I break down why supporting veterinarians who build sustainable businesses helps push the profession forward, and leads to better care for your pet. What We Cover in This Episode Why money is often an uncomfortable topic in veterinary medicine How financial stability allows vets to invest in better tools and services Why advanced continuing education matters for your pet's care Why financially healthy practices help prevent burnout in veterinarians How expanded services (like nutrition consults, advanced testing, and integrative therapies) become possible when vets can reinvest in their practices   A veterinarian who is able to invest in their education, their tools, and their services can ultimately provide more options and better support for your pet's health.   📌Links: Book your 1:1 nutrition consultation today Book your 1:1 holistic in home visit today Watch this episode on YouTube
