Emphysema
Hey there future nurses!! Welcome to another episode of the Nursing School Podcast.
This week we'll be discussing pathophysiology and patient teaching for Emphysema.
Emphysema(COPD) is the third leading cause of death world wide according to the World Health Organization.
Risk factors include: Smoking, indoor air pollution, and occupational exposure.
COPD causes persistent and progressive respiratory symptoms including difficulty breathing cough and phlegm production.
Early diagnosis and treatment including smoking cessation is needed to slow the progression of symptoms and reduce exacerbation.

24. Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Month
Hello Future Nurses!!!
In addition to March being DVT Awareness Month it is also Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Month. So in today’s episode we will be learning about MS.
An estimated 1 million people live with MS in the United States. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, and it affects women three times more than men.
Sadly, there is no cure.
As nurses our goal is to help our patients live as independently as they can with MS by ensuring they are educated about the disease process, making their home safe, and assessing the need for mental health support.
In this week's episode of The Nursing School Simplified Podcast, you will learn the etiology, signs and symptoms, disease management, nursing considerations, and patient teaching.
