The Origination Point Podcast

Becoming aware of our biases and moving them from implicit, (unknown) to explicit, (known) is only the first step. To deconstruct our past biased experiences and not have them impact our present experiences we have to find the origination point of the bias. The origination point is the place where we had an experience or were given a narrative about a small group of people that we extrapolated to a larger group. The origination point is key because it is the point of healing and understanding.

This episode underscores the importance of integrating disability into diversity, equity, and inclusion dialogues, providing valuable insights for listeners on how to foster truly inclusive environments. Together with Alison, we dissect the emotional and psychological hurdles that come with acquiring disabilities later in life, including the internalized ableism and stigma associated with the term "disabled." Our conversation touches on the critical differences between person-first and identity-first language, reflecting on how these terms shape societal attitudes. By acknowledging the diversity within the disabled community, we aim to challenge and dismantle ableist thinking, even among those with disabilities, to promote a more inclusive worldview.
