Rick Alspaugh - Owner of Alspaugh's Hardware & Boutique in Kingwood

Fred Olson - Formerly Mac Hudson of "The Hudson & Harrigan Show"

Let me just start out by saying, “Thank you! Thank you for sharing some of your highly valuable free time with us here.” Of course, our free time would be a lot more valuable if we didn’t have so much of it, because right now we’ve all got plenty of free time, don’t we? Today, The Outdoor Cooking Show is going to talk about one of the fastest-growing phenomena in the grilling world – slow smoked pork butt.

Scott Snodgrass - Co-Founder of Agmenity and event organizer for The 4th Annual Chef Fest

Fred Olson - Formerly Mac Hudson of "The Hudson & Harrigan Show"

Wow! It’s a crazy world we live in these days, isn’t it? This whole pandemic thing with the Coronavirus has turned society on its ear. Let’s see – they’ve cancelled Cera Week for the oil and gas industry, and Rice has told students to stay away from in-person classes this past week, Montgomery County closed all its schools early for Spring Break, Tour de Houston has been postponed and several other events have been shut down (like the NBA), but nothing compares to what happened Wednesday when the mayor issued an emergency health declaration that closed the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo for the rest of the year.

I hope you’re ready, because I’m going to start out by making a very personal confession, and I’m still not sure how I feel about the whole thing. Well, this last week was Super Tuesday, and Texas was among several states that held primary elections, and I thought about doing something in this election that I haven’t done in over 40 years – literally over 40 years. I thought about crossing over and voting Democrat, just so I could vote against Bernie Sanders.

Nick Castleberg - Texas Historian & Master Chef

Dave Fremont - Boyd's One Stop

Fred Olson - Formerly Mac Hudson of "The Hudson & Harrigan Show"

Every year around this time – I do mean every year – I say to my wife Cindy, “Well, it’s humid and rainy one day, and cold and windy the next, so it must be time for the trail riders to hit town.” And sure enough that’s exactly what the weather’s been like lately, right? So, it’s time to break out your boots and hat, and get that “Yee Haw” feeling in your heart because it’s Rodeo season, ain’t it?

Jerrod Poffenberger - Co-Owner of The Bellville Meat Market

Fred Olson - Formerly Mac Hudson of "The Hudson & Harrigan Show"

I’ve had a lot of things on my mind this week, and I’m gonna start out the show today by sharing some of them with you. Most of them have to do with the media, in one way or another, and I’ve often said, “I don’t know much about much, but I do know a lot about the media.”

Let’s face it – the food don’t get no better’n it does around this time of year – Christmas and New Year’s party food – BBQ for The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo, and Mardi Gras Cajun cuisine, and that’s what we’re going to talk about today on The Outdoor Cooking Show.

Too many commercials

Great podcast if you love tons of commercials and very little content.

Great show

Lots of fun and very easy to follow tips and techniques, served up with some good old fashioned conversations. I admit to being a big fan of the old Hudson and Harrington shows, so I especially enjoy when Fred Olson drops in. Well worth the listening.
