Darren Warth - Grand Champion of The 2017 World’s Championship BBQ Contest

Bill Olson - Publisher of Texas Outdoors Magazine and Competition BBQ Chef

Boy, it’s been an eventful week, has it not? Well, I guess it depends on your perspective – or at the very least it depends on your location, because the winter weather was a little bit worse north of I-10 than it was down south of I-10. But of course, the big story was not how cold it was. The big story was how quickly the power grid broke down and left well over a million people without electricity – just when they needed it the most. I haven’t seen any comprehensive analysis of why that happened, or who is to blame, but I’m sure there will be several studies conducted to figure all that out.

Winter is coming! No, I’m not flashing back to Game of Thrones. I mean, winter really is coming – like this weekend! It’s gonna get really, really cold – just in time for my wife and me to stand in line to get the second round of the COVID vaccine…outside, no less. We’ll see how that goes, and I’ll tell you all about it on next week’s edition of The Outdoor Cooking Show, but other than that we’re gonna park in front of the fireplace – we’re staying home (as always – that’s all we do)!

You know, I’ve been in broadcasting for 57 years, and I’ve seen a lot things change over the decades. For one – when I first started on the air we played these things called “records,” and now almost 60 years later they’re called “vinyl,” and they’re making a comeback. There are even “vinyl stores” that are dedicated to nothing but selling old “records” that I used to play on the radio a lifetime ago. Some things change, and some things never change, but some things change and then change back again – like “records,” or “vinyl” if you prefer.

Geez, a lot has happened since you and I last talked, and this is only a ten-minute monologue, so I guess I should get right to it, huh? I am very happy to report that my wife Cindy and I have now received the first round of the COVID vaccine, and that means we’re halfway back to being able to watch our grandson play baseball again, so we’re very excited!

Fred Olson - Formerly Mac Hudson of "The Hudson & Harrigan Show"

Wow, what a week it’s been, huh? The sheer amount of energy – positive and negative energy has been simply overwhelming for me, and to be perfectly honest with you – I’m just sick and tired of it all. COVID just seems to go on and on, and now we’re hearing that there aren’t going to be enough doses of the vaccine for everyone to get the second round. Good grief! How does that even happen? How did things get so screwed up on this rollout? Well, it wouldn’t be the first time we saw the federal government screw up a rollout of some major initiative, would it?

Matt Coburn - Chef de Cuisine at Georgia James Tavern

This is the time of year that reminds me of the opening line from the Charles Dickens novel “A Tale of Two Cities.” You remember that – “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times…”? Yeah, but in this case I’m talking about football season (not basketball). You know me – I love football, so this time of year gets me really excited because some of the most important games – and the best games are being played, but at the same time football season is winding down, and that’s the worst of times for people like me who love it so much.

Great show

Lots of fun and very easy to follow tips and techniques, served up with some good old fashioned conversations. I admit to being a big fan of the old Hudson and Harrington shows, so I especially enjoy when Fred Olson drops in. Well worth the listening.

Too many commercials

Great podcast if you love tons of commercials and very little content.
