Dear Parent: Do You Know Why ADHD Kids Melt Down At Home but Hold It Together At School….Parenting Strategies That Actually Work!!

Dear Parent, You have said it five times already. They still have not moved. You remind them about homework. You remind them to brush their teeth. You remind them to pack their backpack, start their morning routine, clean their room, and put their dishes in the sink. And every day, you wonder why nothing sticks no matter how many times you say it. Here is what I want you to understand: your child is not ignoring you. Their brain is struggling to execute. And the more you remind, the less their brain is neurologically required to do on its own. This system is designed to shift the weight from your voice to the environment so that structure does the work instead of you. Want more?  The ADHD Home Reset System Stop Reminding. Start Seeing Follow-Through. Toolkit! https://37960614383.gumroad.com/l/rsfvor Welcome back to The Path to Peace Therapy Podcast. If you're new here, my name is Stephanie Buckley. I'm a Parenting Strategist and Family Systems Coach who specializes in ADHD, executive functioning challenges, emotional regulation, and the patterns that keep families stuck in the same arguments on repeat. I created this podcast because I didn't want parents to feel alone, and I wanted to translate what's happening under the behavior neurologically, psychologically, and relationally so you can stop taking the behavior personally and start responding strategically. I'm also a mom to a thriving 23 year neurodivergent son with ADHD  and I've been married for over three decades, so I bring both professional insight and lived experience into these conversations because real families need real tools. Many ADHD children hold it together all day at school and then melt down when they get home. This episode explains the neuroscience behind after-school dysregulation and introduces a practical After-School Reset System that helps stabilize the brain and nervous system. Parents will learn how protein snacks like Orgain protein drinks, Chomps beef sticks, string cheese, and apples with peanut butter can help regulate blood sugar, why hydration supports emotional regulation, and how movement such as jumping on a mini trampoline, doing jumping jacks, jumping rope, running short sprints, going for a walk, or playing tag helps ADHD brains release pent-up energy. The episode also explains why screen time after school can create a synthetic dopamine spike followed by a crash, and why calm hands-on activities such as listening to music or working on STEM kits like KiwiCo are healthier decompression tools. When families consistently follow the sequence of protein, water, movement, and non-screen decompression, many children transition into homework and evening routines with far fewer meltdowns. And every day, you wonder why nothing sticks no matter how many times you say it. Here is what I want you to understand: your child is not ignoring you. Their brain is struggling to execute. This system is designed to shift the weight from your voice to the environment so that structure does the work instead of you. My name is Stephanie Buckley. I am a parenting strategist, ADHD specialist, and family systems coach. I have been married for over three decades and I am a mother to a now-thriving neurodivergent 23-year-old son who is an incredible musician, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. When he was younger, I did not fully understand what was happening in his brain. I was a trained therapist and I still felt lost inside my own home. So I built what I wish we had. Want more?  The ADHD Home Reset System Stop Reminding. Start Seeing Follow-Through. Toolkit! https://37960614383.gumroad.com/l/rsfvor If your child has ADHD and things still aren't improving even with accommodations or medication it may not be about trying harder. It may be about the environment their brain is functioning in. In this episode, we build on the concept of the ADHD ecosystem and walk through five key areas that directly impact focus, mood, and follow-through: sleep, nutrition, screen time, structure, and daily regulation. Using a practical, real-life lens and the rainforest analogy, this episode helps parents understand why behavior isn't random and how small, consistent changes can create meaningful shifts. I also clarify my stance on medication: I don't prescribe it, and I'm not here to discourage it but if it's part of your plan, it needs to be supported by a well-functioning ecosystem. Why ADHD is better understood as an ecosystem How sleep, food, and screens directly impact behavior Why structure reduces overwhelm and improves follow-through The role of daily habits in focus and emotional regulation Why one tool alone (including medication) isn't enough You don't fix the brain in isolation you build the environment the brain lives in. Dear Parent: Why Some Young Adults Quit Jobs So Quickly…Understanding Friction Intolerance, Anxiety Avoidance, and Workplace Development!

Welcome back to The Path to Peace Therapy Podcast. Season  6 episode # 125  explores why some young adults leave jobs quickly and how anxiety avoidance, executive functioning development, and family dynamics influence workplace persistence. Dear Parent of a 20 Something, If your young adult were to fill out a dating profile right now, with complete honesty about the current state of their life, who would match with them?   That question changes everything. Because failure to launch is not about laziness, bad character, or parenting mistakes. It is about a nervous system caught in a dopamine loop, a brain that has learned that the world will absorb the consequences of staying stuck, and a family system that has been accidentally organized around protecting a young adult from the very experiences that would move them forward. This guide is the most comprehensive resource I have ever created for parents navigating this situation. It covers everything: the neuroscience, the behavioral psychology, the real-world adulting skills, the body protocol, the family system dynamics, and the honest conversations most parents are avoiding because they do not know how to have them without destroying the relationship.  How To Actually Get Your 20-Something Successfully Launched Into the World A Parent's Complete Guide to Failure to Launch!!  Click link to access today!  https://37960614383.gumroad.com/l/bissva To Book An Appointment The Path To Peace Therapy Website  https://www.thepathtopeacetherapy.com/book-online The Path to Peace Therpy Blog over 100 posts  https://www.thepathtopeacetherapy.com/blog This episode is for educational purposes and to provide support. Let Me Introduce You To The Skylight Calendar: An External System That Replaces Nagging, Reduces Conflict, and Rebuilds Executive Function in ADHD Homes!!!

If you feel like you're constantly reminding, repeating, and managing everything in your home, this episode is for you. In many families, the parent becomes the system holding all the structure, expectations, and follow-through and over time, that leads to frustration, burnout, and disconnection. In this episode, I break down why this dynamic actually works against the ADHD brain and how it activates stress instead of responsibility. More importantly, I introduce the external system I use with families that shifts the entire household dynamic reducing conflict, increasing independence, and creating real follow-through. This isn't about trying harder. It's about building a system that actually works. You will be so thilled for this amazing recommendation!! Tools I recommend! Dear Parent of an Athlete: The Neurobiology of the "Stuck" Athlete: Systemic Anxiety and the Architecture of Error Recovery

Season 7 Episode # 13  Dear Parent of an Athlete: The Neurobiology of the "Stuck" Athlete: Systemic Anxiety and the Architecture of Error Recovery Episode Summary: Have you ever watched your child make a simple mistake on the field and instantly undergo a complete psychological collapse? They stop moving their feet, their shoulders drop, and they completely check out of the game. In this masterclass-level episode, Stephanie Buckley, Parenting Strategist and Family Systems Coach, decodes the profound neurobiological and systemic reasons behind the "stuck" athlete. Moving far beyond the cliché advice to "just shake it off," Stephanie explains how an amygdala hijack shuts down executive functioning and how parents' own intergenerational anxiety often fuels the sideline spiral. You will leave with actionable, solution-focused scaffolding tools to help your neurodivergent or highly sensitive athlete build resilience and recover from errors in real-time. Key Takeaways: The Biological Floor: Why a child's ability to recover from a mistake is dictated by their allostatic load (blood sugar, sleep, and nervous system inflammation) before behavioral tools can even work. The Amygdala Hijack: Why your athlete isn't being "defiant" or "lazy" when they shut down—their prefrontal cortex has actually gone offline. Bowen Family Systems on the Sideline: How Mom and Dad's own unresolved performance anxiety projects onto the child, creating a paralyzing triangulation. The Power of Differentiation: How to become a "non-anxious presence" to provide autonomic co-regulation for your child. The Path to Peace Protocol: Real-life "Mom & Dad" scripts for the morning of the game, the moment of the mistake, and the dreaded car ride home. What You'll Learn: The Science of Connection: Why the "thinking brain" (Prefrontal Cortex) goes offline during stress and how to bring it back. Dear Parent: You Got the Diagnosis, the Medication, and the Accommodations… So Why Is Your Child Still Struggling?

We are doing a better job than ever identifying ADHD. Children are being diagnosed earlier, teens are receiving accommodations, and young adults are heading to college with support plans in place. On paper, it looks like progress. So why are so many still struggling? In this episode, Stephanie Buckley breaks down the missing piece in ADHD treatment: psychoeducation and environment. Too often, individuals are given diagnoses, medication, and accommodations—but are never taught how their brain actually functions or what it needs to perform. This episode introduces the concept of the ADHD ecosystem, explaining how sleep, nutrition, hydration, screen time, movement, and structure directly impact focus, emotional regulation, and follow-through. Stephanie also clarifies an important distinction: medication can be helpful, but it is a tool for symptom management—not a standalone solution. Without the right internal and external conditions, even the best interventions can fall short. Why ADHD is not just about attention but an entire system The role of the biopsychosocial model in behavior and performance What medication does—and what it does not do How sleep, diet, and screen time affect dopamine and brain function Why "the medication didn't work" is often a misinterpretation How structure reduces overwhelm and supports executive functioning The concept of attribution error and how it impacts parent perception You can have the right diagnosis, medication, and accommodations but if the ecosystem is not supporting the brain, progress will continue to feel inconsistent.
