At the Penumbra, you might follow Juno Steel, a brooding, sharp-witted private eye on Mars, as he tangles with an elusive homme fatale, tracks dangerous artifacts of an ancient alien civilization, and faces his three greatest fears: heights, blood, and relationships.

Or you might enter the world of the Second Citadel, where the merciless Sir Caroline must corral a team of emotionally distraught all-male knights to defend their city against mind-manipulating monsters...even the ones they’ve fallen in love with.

These audio dramas and more await you in the Penumbra, dear traveler. We hope you enjoy your stay. (Start with "UPDATED 1.01: Juno Steel and the Case of the Murderous Mask" or "1.09: Second Citadel - The Head of the Janus Beast.")

Great show

Great show, good writing and plot and character progression.

The sound levels for dialog and sound are off so it’s annoying to keep going up and down on volume to keep it normal.

On the topic of representation

First off, I’d like to start by saying that I really like this podcast, from its quirkiness to its flamboyance. I don’t have a problem with them being exaggerated stories, since I think that it’s what gives it character and makes it quite fun to listen to.

Although most of the ratings are extremely high, there are some low ratings lurking about. I’ve found that one of the major complaints is that the Penumbra is force-feeding the listener with too much queerness per se and that they should make it less blatant. I however disagree. I think that the extreme presence of queer content within the podcast should be welcomed rather than shunned. (To clarify, in this section I’ll mainly be talking about Juno’s universe.) I’d like to think that with the world’s progress will come an openness to the LGBTQ+ community that will allow them to thrive within society as we see in these ones. I think that if we truly find the vision of the world presented through the Penumbra as jarring, we should really take a step back and look at why we believe that to be true.

In conclusion, although it certainly isn’t perfect, it’s a fun podcast that has an idealistic vision of the future that I think we should all try to adopt (as far as queer culture goes.)
