    Episode 115 - Monarch Legacy Of Monsters Eps 6 - 8 & 2023 Awards

KES and Slick dole out some awards for 2023.  Best Picture, Best Figure, Best Kaiju Design, Best Characters...and a few razzies too.  We also go into our thoughts on Monarch: Legacy of Monsters episodes 6, 7, and 8.  Did we get some 1950's stuff?  Did stuff actually happen in 2015? Is Tim loyal to Monarch or the group? We'll discuss it all.  We also go into detail about the new Playmates releases that have hit store shelves so be warned, the spoiler is no longer a spoiler so our hands are clean of this one.

Episode 114 - Kong Christmas IV: Son Of Kong (and Monarch Ep 5)

Episode 114 - Kong Christmas IV: Son Of Kong (and Monarch Ep 5)

Seasons greetings all you kaiju weirdos.  KES and Slick bring back the annual tradition, Kong Christmas.  This year we landed on Son of Kong, the 1933 follow up to King Kong...which also came out in 1933.  We stuck with it and for a whole one hour and nine minutes we watched this movie.  We go from NY to a port somewhere in the Pacific...or Atlantic...who knows!? And then to Skull Island, where we meet up with Kong's son or something, who knows!? Maybe they're not related and we've all been swerved, bro.  But take a listen to our sizzling hot takes on this classic.
We also evaluate Episode 5 of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters.  We follow Cate, Kentaro, and Maye as they continue to search for their father, this time taking the excursion to San Francisco, where Care is having some PTSD from G-Day. But are cracks in their foundation beginning to spread?  Hmmmm
As always we round out the episode with our purchases of kaiju stuff.  We also begin the episode with hot takes on the GxK The New Empire trailer that came out.  Godzilla is PINK, guys! (that's not sarcasm, that's approval)

    Episode 113 - Godzilla Minus One (and Monarch ep 3 & 4)

    Episode 113 - Godzilla Minus One (and Monarch ep 3 & 4)

THIS PODCAST HAS SPOILERS: KES and Slick headed to IMAX for the earliest showing we could get for the newest feature length Godzilla film from Toho, Minus One.  We have heard all sorts of takes on opinions of the movie but miraculously escaped most spoilers, except the toy one.  Set in post war Japan from 1945 - 1948 we follow the story of people who's lives and homes were ravaged by not only war, but a giant menacing beast from Odo Island.  This movie has unexpected plot devices, twists, stunning visuals, and will make you feel.  This description was pretty hard to write without explicitly spoiling anything.
But we aren't only talking about Minus One, we're also talking about the latest episodes from Monarch Legacy of Monsters on Apple TV+.  Episodes 3 and 4 have been released.  Were they able to keep our expectations high from 1 and 2?
Finally we're talking figures and upcoming releases in this super sized episode.

    Episode 112 - Monarch Legacy Of Monsters Eps 1 & 2

    Episode 112 - Monarch Legacy Of Monsters Eps 1 & 2

KES and Slick got out their 7 day free trial of Apple TV+ and then $9.99 every month after just for the release of Monarch Legacy of Monsters, a new live action series in the Legendary Monsterverse highlighting the happenings of the creation of the shadowy organization and it's evolution throughout multiple timelines.  We have a slew of new characters, and a returning character as well, and following their adventures in the 1950's, 70's, and 2010's.  Oh, and there's that Godzilla guy and a bunch of wacky monsters too! We review the first 2 episodes and we'll be back for more as they drop.
We're also talking about Slick's newest purchases including the Mezco Mecha Godzilla, Cesar, and Godzilla set, an FYE Godzilla ornament, and we do a live unboxing of the Super 7 mystery boxes.  3 of them!
Next episode, we're pumped for it, Godzilla Minus One in IMAX!

    Episode 111 - Godzilla Day 2023

We cap off the episode with recent purchases including the new Playmates GvK Hollow Earth play set.

Episode 110 - Godzilla READS Again & A Nightmare On Elm St Part 2 Freddy’s Revenge

Episode 110 - Godzilla READS Again & A Nightmare On Elm St Part 2 Freddy’s Revenge

KES and Slick are celebrating Halloween with even more thrills and chills.  Not only are we talking about A Nightmare On Elm St Part 2, a reviled or beloved movie depending on who you ask, but we're also talking about the Godzilla and Godzilla Raids Again novels that were recently released.  We talk about the plot, the differences, and how we liked the novels.  We think it's a good translation but does it stack up well compared to the movies?
A Nightmare On Elm St is the bizarre black sheep of the series.  Other installations of the series are frequently referenced, with some major actors returning to reprise their roles.  This, on the other hand, was largely swept under the rug and is never referenced again.  Why?  KES and Slick explore the weirdness, the homoerotic nature of the movie, and the behind the scenes things that played it's own role in the lives of those working on the film.  Also, spoilers, KES loves this movie.
We're also rounding things out with purchases and upcoming topics!

Excellent combination of facts and fun

This podcast hits all the right spots for me-the hosts aren’t poseurs trying to pass themselves off as “genre scholars”, the episodes are concise and not drug out for hours, and Kes and Slick have excellent chemistry. They happily don’t confine themselves to just Godzilla but cover the wonderful wide world of tokusatsu. They strike a good balance-informative without being pretentious and fun without constantly trying to be comedians or mysterious clowns. News segments, topic segments, and collectibles segments all blend together seamlessly and their Godzilla: Battle Line segments are top notch. They also have great pod voices, clear and easy to understand, something that’s important for a non-native speaker like me. And Nicki the guest host is awesome too! Highest recommendation for kaiju and toku fans.

Kind of a mess

Audio quality can be poor, with volume levels uneven between the two persons speaking. Podcasts lack planning: it can take 15 minutes before they get to the topic. Editing is a thing for a reason: if people want to hear you burping and commenting with pride about it, this is their podcast, but myself, I had come here thinking this is was a podcast about movies.
