Two dudes that have had movie discussions their whole life take their conversation to the mics as they discuss a plethora of things in the current pop culture zeitgeist that surrounds Hollywood. After the credits roll, these two movie buffs dig into things, holding nothing back as they discuss movies, tv shows, and everything that goes into making and consuming them. Listen in for a format that isn't about assigning a rating, but instead is a conversation you might have with a friend. These guys are passionate about it, and hope to inspire the same in you.
337 Dirty Dancing (YFM w/ Jacky)
Last month was the 35th anniversary of the legendary 80s dance and music movie, Dirty Dancing. In the studio, Matt and Drew speak with a guest, Jackie, from Australia in another Your Favorite Movie episode where we invite movie-lovers on to talk about, you guessed it, Your Favorite Movie.
Join us today as we talk about the infamous chemistry between Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey as they blur the line between love and hate with their mutual dislike behind the scenes, discuss our favorite songs and scenes of the movie, debate the coupling of Johnny/Baby/Penny/Billy, and finally ask our guest if Henry Cavill could take Patrick’s spot on the top of her list..
Let’s carry a watermelon as we dive in!
336 Harry Potter and The Goblet Of Fire (The Tragedy of Edward Bruce Diggory)
Join us today in this Memoriam to the late-great Cedric Diggory (1977-1995), the hero and true champion of the last Triwizard Tournament. Listen in as we discuss the detour in Dumbledore's plan to destroy Voldemort with the occurence of The Triwizard Championship & how Harry Potter gets drawn into the contest surrounded by escaped and dangerous death eaters, a friend who has turned his back on him, nightmares, dragons, and hormones. It all culminates in the death of an innocent student and the return of Voldemort in all his power and glory. We also discuss our favorite character in all of Cinema, the director's lack of passion for Potter, and the most important flub Voldemort ever made. Eternal glory awaits the victor.. But so might death.
335 The Sandlot (We Need To Talk About Bertram)
On Today's episode of The PCP, Drew brings 1993's The Sandlot to the show so we can talk about Benny, Ham, Squints, and Smalls and their summer of legendary pickling with Hercules and the rest of the 'lot'. Listen in as we discuss filming in Utah, Wendy Peffercorn and her mixed signals, what pickling actually is, James Earl Jones, Squints being the worst lookout of all-time, and much more! So just stand (sit?) there, put your ear to the speaker, and we'll take care of it. Thanks for listening, Pee-drinking crap-face!
334 Last Action Hero (Look! Ahahlahphant!!)
On today's episode of The PCP we revisit a movie ahead of its time, Last Action Hero. This week we make the case that this movie, perhaps, would be better recieved today as a spoof of the plethora of movies in the 80s and 90s whose plot bore similar to this: A badass action hero in jeans and snakeskin boots, impervious to death, filled with one-liners, who always wins no matter what. Join us as we try to explain what makes Arnold's particular brand of comedy work, how foreshadowing plays out in this movie world, and why some old-school tropes need to return as we examine a fictional man, made aware of his imagined existence and how he struggles with pain and death for the very first time. This movie has heart, fantasy, action, Sonya Blade, the T-1000, a cartoon cat, and a mobster named Leo The Fart.. Guess what he does?... I miss the 90s.. Roll it!
333 Harry Potter and The Prisoner Of Azkaban (Full of Riddikulusness)
Replace your Reese's Pieces with full-on chocolate because it helps, it really helps, to discuss Dementors, Werewolves, Animagi, and time travel in The Prisoner Of Azkaban. Drew has escaped the studio and is wanted and considered extremely busy. To help, Matt's daughter Kailee flew into town to get on the mic and discuss a quick repreive in Dumbledore's plan as Harry learns the one who betrayed his parents to their death has escaped from Azkaban and is after Harry himself. In this episode we discuss The Marauders and their map, what an Animagus is, and why you'll never say ridiculous the same way again. Something wicked this way comes.
332 Jaws (dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun dun....)
Open wide and say Jaws!! Today Matt and Drew talk about the very first blockbuster that started them all, helmed expertly by consistant auteur Steven Spielberg. This 1975 movie, adapted from the same-name novel by Peter Benchley, does away with all the extra plots of the book (steamy and dangerous as they may be) and focuses on what people came to the theater for: A man eating shark eating men. And women. And children. And not in that order. Join us as we discuss this simplistic plot that, almost 50 years later, still astonishes, still captivates, still frightens, and still has you thinking twice about dipping your toe in the deep. Smile Bruce, here comes your close-up!!
