Episode 15: From Houston to Hosting the Stevie Wonder Show: Navigating the News & Entertainment Industry Through the Diaspora's Lens w/ Amen Oyiboke

Greetings and Welcome to S2 Ep. 03!
In this episode, we are discussing how women of color living in the diaspora who have a passion for writing and dream to share their stories on major news and entertainment platforms can start a career in journalism. Joining me in tonight's conversation is my good friend Amen Oyiboke. Amen is a powerhouse woman rocking the journalism space and is on a mission to change the perception of women of color who have faced industry bias and discrimination in modern-day media.
    About Amen
Amen is all things self-discovery and purpose — from being a journalist to hosting, to music and mentoring Amen is constantly exploring ways to create a legacy for the next generation. A native of Houston, Texas, and a proud product of Prairie View A&M University, Amen started her journalism journey right after moving to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California (USC). Although moving from Houston to Los Angeles was a big step for Amen, she knew that if she could move out of her comfort zone, she could be a better professional and a better woman. Amen prides herself on her work ethic and continues to change the perception of modern-day media. Her media and writing credits include pieces for H Texas Magazine, Annenberg Radio News, the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, Pilates Style Magazine, and countless red carpet interviews. Amen also worked as a contributor with the Los Angeles Sentinel Newspaper, Bustle, Yahoo Finance, and hosted on Stevie Wonder’s LA station 102.3. She currently works at CTI, a personal finance publication, and is working on two documentaries to be released in 2021. ⁣

Greetings and welcome to season 2 episode 2.  In today's episode, I am having a different conversation. A conversation that leads to empowering listeners about building their own table by following their purpose. Joining me in the conversation tonight is Kisha Howell. She is a powerhouse woman who took a leap of crazy faith by quitting her full-time job to start her interior design business called Bold Hues. In this episode, Kisha drops a few gems about the importance of working from a place of purpose and how to design a workspace that sparks innovation and reflective of your personality.

    About Kisha,

Kisha, a proud southern girl from Charlotte, NC, moved to New York 8 years ago with the expressed intent of consistently outgrowing herself. Bold Hues is committed to providing high-quality interior decorating services that encourages its clients to practice self-care and self-love through decor. Thought provoking dialogues that we didn’t know we needed

This podcast is worth a listen! The subject matters that Orobosa discusses with women of African-descent are issues that we never knew we needed to (or could) discuss amongst ourselves. In one episode, Orobosa and her guest dive deeply into the taboo subject of infertility in the African community and highlights that women with Infertility issues are not alone, and that there is a light at the end of the somewhat endless tunnel. I appreciate the diversity of the women that have been featured on the podcasts. Women that are coming from different walks of life, but with the common goal of unifying each through their heritage.
