Excessive Use of Force: Diagnosing Our Over-Policing Problem
The media may have moved on from its wall-to-wall coverage of the killing of Tyre Nichols, but the nation is still hurting. This week, we’re discussing how incorrectly diagnosing the problem of police brutality has led to a system that hurts everyone. We’re joined by Heather McGhee, author and chair of the racial justice organization Color of Change, and Dr. Phillip Atiba Goff, CEO of Center for Policing Equity. They share their thoughts on why armed cops shouldn’t be doing minor traffic stops, how the system changes a cop from the inside out, and how investing in human infrastructure is our best solution to the ongoing problem of police brutality. Also, writers Rob Christensen and Kasaun Wilson weigh in on the sensationalization of the body cam footage and their own run-ins with the law.
Season 2 is now streaming on Apple TV+.

The Problem Isn’t Biden or Trump. It’s How America Keeps Secrets.
The media is chasing the classified documents fiasco like it’s spy vs. spy, Trump vs. Biden. But on this week’s episode, we’re breaking down the absurdity of a national security system that makes it so darn easy to hoard classified documents. We’re joined by Matthew Connelly, professor of history at Columbia and author of The Declassification Engine: What History Reveals About America’s Top Secrets. He gives us the inside scoop on how unwieldy our system for keeping state secrets has become, who it’s really designed to protect, and how we might revamp it so that it can actually, you know, keep a secret. Plus, writers Jay Jurden and Robby Slowik run through the documents the FBI found at Pence’s house—and why they’re going to make Mother very angry.

The Far Right Is Going Global: Anne Applebaum on the Decline of Democracy
Brazil’s insurrection is just the latest in a series of attacks on democracy around the world. So we’re talking to Anne Applebaum, a staff writer at The Atlantic and author of the book Twilight of Democracy, about why autocracy is making a comeback and how to stop it. We dive into democracy’s roots as an unstable form of government, the role of global elites on both sides, and why fascism is really just a money-laundering scheme. Plus, writers Henrik Blix and Maria Randazzo weigh in on George Santos’ litany of stupid lies and why you can always tell a future dictator by the absurdity of his facial hair.

A Nuanced Conversation About COVID Vaccines (Yes, Really!)
It’s 2023 and we’re coming in hot with a conversation about COVID vaccines! We’re joined by Dr. Gregory A. Poland (director of Mayo Clinic’s Vaccine Research Group), Dr. Saad Omer (director of the Yale Institute for Global Health), and Zeynep Tufekci (professor at Columbia University), who bring something that’s often lacking from these conversations: nuance. We talk through why many non-crazy people are hesitant to get vaccinated, how our public health institutions have failed to communicate effectively with the masses, and why it should be perfectly okay to ask questions about the risks and benefits of any vaccine. Plus, writers Tocarra Mallard and Kasaun Wilson bring us up to speed on the latest Harry and Meghan drama.

Our Education System Is Broken. We Asked the Secretary of Education How to Fix It.
This week we’re joined by Miguel Cardona, the U.S. Secretary of Education. We cover why schools aren’t evolving fast enough to keep up with current challenges, how the shifting roles of schools and teachers are leaving many educators without the resources they need, and remaking the system so that it’s more about students and less about test scores and resume-building. Plus, staff writer Kasaun Wilson reveals that he lost a bet when Jon actually showed up at our holiday party, and Deniz Çam from our research team discusses the horrible legal limbo documented Dreamers are caught in — and how we can help.

Jon Stewart is my religion
This podcast has reignited my anger at the world in the best possible way. I forgot what it was like to be both passionate and informed about an issue.
Review
This podcast is so much more one-dimensional than I expected. No matter the subject, it just seems like a lot of very interesting guests who Mr Stewart continuously uses as a platform for anti-US, anti-west, anti-government, anti-republican positions. It doesn’t seem to slow him down even when a guest gives him another viewpoint or reason for the problem to consider. Seems like the very thing he has always preached against.
Vaccine controversy!
I have never had a issues of getting vaccinated for me and my family. However, my health on the last 20 years had been declining so my Doctor did not recommended the vaccine due to many reactions to medications in the last few years. Because I’m a healthcare provider I needed to be vaccinated even against doctor advice. After the vaccine I got sicker!!!! My blood pressure got really high and have other symptoms related to hypertension. I never have high blood pressure! Called 911 multiple times due to health related issues related to the vaccine. My employer pushed me to the vaccine to keep my job its the same employer that fired my because I got the vaccine after I got it. I couldn’t continue to go to my cardiologist appointments because I did have insurance after they fired me. Do you think this is fair?
