Tough Love Joe ,

An Entertaining

There is a whole sub-genre of video games that really caught fire during the pandemic that are grouped under the heading of “cozy games”. These games have been defined as providing entertainment in ways that are constructive, positive and in many cases celebrating collaboration. As one website put it, “Self-expression is core to the games' progression goals, which tend to be open-ended.”

I find The Process delivers that same feeling in podcast form. Doctor Bielmeier brings his personal expertise and passion for experimental music to his conversations with creators about their methods of creation. The discussions on the mechanisms of creativity are often punctuated with the music end results, and beyond the techniques themselves the roots of artistic expression are also explored.

From improvisation as a means to explore personal identity to using the sounds of ice cracking to emphasize the importance of listening, every episode brings fascinating material to absorb and consider. One of my most reliable judgements of a good podcast is wishing each episode was twice as long. In the case of The Process, the end of an entry always feels far too quick. Highly recommended.
