Interview with Damon Garcia - Author of “The God Who Riots: Taking Back the Radical Jesus”

In this episode, I interview Damon Garcia, a Leftist Christian, public theologian, writer, and video essayist whose work is inspired by liberation theology, decolonization, and anti-capitalist politics as he helps people unsettle and untangle the influence of Christian teachings developed to justify colonization.

so thankful

deconstruction is really difficult. finding a podcast like this makes me feel less alone and hopeful for the future of the church.

So Refreshing

I grew up in a typical rural-southern Protestant tradition. I was very religious as a young man. In recent years I have given up on Christianity and my faith. Due partially to the fact I don’t want to waste my life thinking about what may happen after I die and mostly because of the hateful rhetoric coming from many Christians. I could not reconcile that the faith tradition that taught me empathy and care was now a leading harbinger of bigotry and lies. Discovering this space has been a nice way to connect with the positive parts of my upbringing.

Maybe helpful to some, not very deep though

To preface, I’m a theologically orthodox Christian, my views on political/social issues are not really on the left-right dimension of current politics. Issue by issue I side most often with democrats, but for different reasons. I disagree fundamentally with the underlying philosophy of progressivism and conservatism. These days it’s all different faces of the same Nietszchean coin. From the one episode I’ve listened to, I doubt this podcast really understands underlying philosophies and assumptions. It appears to just buy into the progressivism package wholesale. If your views are in keeping with the times, just at least question if that is the only reason you hold those views. I could be wrong, so keep listening perhaps.
