Milford Stevenson - Ghana to the United States - A Father's story
Today's episode is dedicated to the late #Don #Harvey, who took the time to mentor our next guest, Milford Stevenson. I was graciously introduced to Milford through the talented Patrick Oyeku, who, as you might remember, was a fantastic previous guest. Don took Milford's cold call and helped guide him to start his own staffing firm based in Houston, Texas. Don helped enforce the word #BELIEVE, a core message he shares with his daughters.
Milford is a seasoned Software as a Service (#SaaS) Product Manager with +15 years of experience across various industries such as Oil & Gas, Investment Banking, Consumer Goods, and Startups. He has led and contributed to R&D, Product Management, UX/UI, Product Design, Legal, and Go-to-Market (GTM) strategies for Enterprise and Consumer-Facing products.
Today, we talk to Milford, the dad. We learn how his family migrated from Ghana to the United States. We learn what it was like to learn about what he thought America was and what it actually was when he arrived. You will learn about the core values his family taught him, which include intense gratitude and belonging.
Milford is a #girldad who loves spending time with his family. There were a lot of great wisdom Milford shares with us in this episode, including one of my favorite sayings he teaches us - "Be intentional, not transactional."
Lastly, Milford reminds us to always be physically and emotionally present with our spouse and children. We must be hands on, and demonstrate the behaviors we want to live out. To learn more about Milford, you can find him on LinkedIn or visit their website at www.openstaff.io.

Keith Weightman - Perspective, Growth and Empathy
Today's interview is one filled with laughter, tears, and growth! When I started this podcast nearly four years ago, this was precisely what I had envisioned. A powerful and honest conversation between two dads that hopefully will inspire other dads at home to lean in on their vulnerabilities.
Today, we welcome the talented Keith Weightman to the show! Keith is the RVP for National Accounts at Bullhorn, a software company serving the staffing and recruiting industry. Keith is married to his wonderful wife, Jordan, and they have two active boys who keep them very busy with sports and activities. Growing up, Keith's dad worked for a powerplant for nearly 30 years, and his mother worked in daycare and then transitioned into a successful career selling Mary Kay products. Faith, sports, and family were enormous values for him and his siblings. As Keith reflected on his childhood, he remembered how important working hard was taught and not using the word "Can't." His parents always taught him that effort was the most important thing you could do!
Later in our conversation, Keith would share a view of personal and vulnerable stories surrounding his uncle with cancer and a close friend of his who is battling ALS. Perspective was a word we discussed throughout our conversation, which was a good reminder for me as the host. Keith shares so much more gold on how he is constantly working hard to become the ultimate quarterback of his house.

Steve Wasik - Habits, Sharing Responsibility, and Growth as a Father!
After hearing the talented Steve Wasik on the You Own The Experience Podcast with Lauren Jones & Rob Mann, I knew Steve would be a great guest! Not only is he super talented within the staffing space, but he is also striving hard to become that ultimate QB or leader of his household. For nearly 18 years, Steve has been successful in many roles inside of Insight Global. Now, he is the Vice President of Culture & Strategy at Compass, a division of Insight Global, one of the nation's leading staffing providers. Compass was created to help organizations reach their fullest potential. Born from the power of their cultural transformation and inspired by its positive impact on their lives, Compass is a new way of approaching culture and leadership.
While this venture seems to be their first endeavor into the world of culture and leadership, they have obsessed with their culture as the cause of their success over the last 20 years. Compass brings a proven method for change, creativity to inspire new possibilities, and a data-driven approach to ensure your change lasts.
In today's conversation, we learn how Steve and Carley are busy raising their two boys, Lucas & Caleb. Additionally, we learned about Steve's parents, who grew up in Michigan and would later divorce and remarry. One thing I learned about Steve is that we both lost our father and discussed our dads' impact on it during our conversation. As you will hear, Steve is very positive and brings incredible energy! After hearing about his father, it was apparent this is where that skill was passed down! You will listen to one of the best stories of creativity from Steve's Dad (and a little bend of the truth) to make an impact on his children.
As an entrepreneur who works from home, Steve shared his passion for sharing responsibility as a father & husband. This spoke to me for sure and is something I'm working hard on every day!
Lastly, Steve reminds us that our kids are always watching, the habits we teach and show genuinely matter, and being a dad is a journey of growth! To learn more about Steve or the great people at Insight Global, please check them out here.

Cam Cleeland - Former NFL & University of Washington TE
Thanks to the brilliant idea from Kelly Hansen, we welcome Cam Cleeland, the legendary TE from the prestigious University of Washington, to the show today! Cam also last played for the St. Louis Rams and the New England Patriots of the NFL before being drafted in the second round of the 1998 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints.
Cam Cleeland recently joined former Doak Walker Award-winning tailback Greg Lewis to the Washington Huskies football radio broadcasts for 2021, Huskies Sports Properties announced today. Cleeland replaces Damon Huard as the color analyst during play-by-play of the Husky football radio broadcasts, while Lewis joins Dave "Softy" Mahler and Dick Baird as the "Husky Honks" providing pregame, halftime and post-game analysis. Cleeland, who was teammates with Huard on the UW's 1995 Pac-10 co-championship team as well as on the 2002 New England Patriots.
Today, we talk to Cam, the dad. We learn how he was raised by a military father who instilled many values of hard work, teamwork, grit, and resilience. We learn about the impact his mother had on him as a young man, too. We learn about growing up in the Skagit Valley of Washington. Additionally, we discussed the power of having the right mindset in life and how we are both working hard to teach our kids this skill. One of the key takeaways from this podcast will be to always "be ready" to teach. Cam instilled the importance of giving more than you receive and also always being accountable in every life decision.
You can follow Cam on the University of Washington broadcasts or any of his social channels to learn more about Cam.

Mark Biscoe - Leading by Example & The Power of Being Present
Our next guest is one of my favorite people I worked with during my 20 years at Kforce, and his name is Mark Biscoe, who has come up of retirement (just like Tom Brady) to share his wisdom and experience with companies. With over 35 years of experience in the IT Staffing and Consulting industry, Mark is a seasoned leader with passion, expertise, and a proven record in driving enterprise growth and expansion through both organic and M&A strategies. Before coming out of retirement at Eliassen, Mark spent time with his grandchildren and family but felt he had more to provide the industry of staffing.
His company now provides the following services:
* Field and Executive Leadership Coaching and Mentoring
* Review and Development of Strategic and Operational Plans for Growth and Expansion
* Outside Board Representation
* IT Staffing and Consulting Industry Expertise for the Private Equity Community
Today, we talk to Mark, the dad, and the grandfather. We learn about his upbringing and how his parents impacted him as a father. Mark and his wonderful wife, Terry, have been married for 38 years and have three fantastic children who are all accomplishing great things in their careers.
In my experience working with Mark, he was and continues to be a fantastic leader who brings positive energy. He also is a great teacher, which I believe he gained from his father, a teacher & coach. Unfortunately, Mark lost his father in 2020 to a stroke which hit home for me, given my father passed away in 2021. Mark would always share a vulnerable story between him and his mom and the challenges she faced with an addiction issue that has since been resolved. Very powerful.
Throughout our conversation, Mark will share the importance of being present, listening, empathizing with others, and always being your best. To learn more about Mark, you can visit him on LinkedIn.

Bret Harrison - Embracing Ego, Empathy & Grace
Our next guest, Bret Harrison, was kindly introduced by the talented Jay Webb, who was a former guest on our podcast! Bret is a very talented sales and marketing executive who leads with curiosity and empathy. More importantly, he has been married for 37 years to his wonderful wife Kim and also is the father of three grown children.
Bret grew up in SE Idaho in a family where the value of hard work was taught and shown daily. In fact, Bret's father, at 80 years old, still drives a truck! He learned so many lessons from his parents that he would later use in a successful career in sales and business. The lessons he was taught have been shared with his kids, specifically around helping others, always following the golden rule, and being curious to see how you can make someone's life better.
One of the powerful moments of our conversation was when Bret shared the story and lesson that we, as dads, must be partners, not roommates. As husbands, he shares that as our marriage grows in time, we must make sure we don't fall into the trap of being roommates. We are life partners. Remember that feeling when you first met your wife, and always make her feel special. Bret also talked about the power of counseling and therapy and that it's OK to ask for help.
Bret later shares why it's so important that, as fathers, we must be open to feedback, and remember, the ego is the enemy! Lastly, always follow the golden rule of life and give yourself grace. We are doing our best.
To learn more about Bret, you can find him on Linked In.
