    An Unprecedented Betrayal of Freedoms

    An Unprecedented Betrayal of Freedoms

The year 2020 will long be remembered for many aspects. Whether it remains in the mind as the year of the COVID-19 pandemic, the year of questionable election results, the year of Black Lives Matter and riots in the streets, there is, as they say, something for everyone. But perhaps the greatest legacy of this nefarious year will be the shift towards tyranny and the destruction of freedoms.

The Rabbit Hole: The Peaceful Transfer of Power Myth

The Rabbit Hole: The Peaceful Transfer of Power Myth

We are told by gasping pundits that Donald Trump is refusing to hand over the power that has been taken from him in a legitimate vote and that by refusing to do so, he endangers the very Republic. But is it those fanning the flames who are the real destroyers of the nation?

The Rabbit Hole – Is Yeats the Prophet of 2020?

The Rabbit Hole – Is Yeats the Prophet of 2020?

In terms of monumental political events, it’s hard to argue that 2020 wasn't big in a lot of different ways. Certainly, there were no traditional major wars, and despite warnings of Armageddon, we are still here, in one piece … but perhaps a little wiser and a fraction more jaded. What can we learn from a poem written 100 years ago on the nature of man? Did William Butler Yeats see it all coming?

The Rabbit Hole: Beware the Blueprint of Fascism

There is a growing trend among global organizations, and it's one that sparks any number of convoluted conspiracy theories: Wargaming. This process sets out scenarios to look at strategies, reactions, and tactics. But they do not advertise their experiments as such. And fascism is behind it.

The Rabbit Hole: Tyrants Try and Try Again Part II

The Rabbit Hole: Tyrants Try and Try Again Part II

In the last edition of The Rabbit Hole, we discussed tyrants throughout history and what their motivations may have been. We examined the life of General William Walker and his war campaign to become the President of Nicaragua and the actions of Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan.
This week, we look at individuals who have tried to carve out their own minor kingdoms of either land or influence. And perhaps show that the heart of man, despite technology, despite millennia of civilization, has not really changed.

The Rabbit Hole: Tyrants Try and Try Again

The Rabbit Hole: Tyrants Try and Try Again

History is littered with the names of those who sought to seize power, but we really only remember those who succeeded. And it hasn’t stopped. We may think that despotism and land grabs are a thing of the past, but there are examples of it happening this very year.

Very informative and greatly entertaining

This podcast is excellent. The episodes are short (about 10 mins), intelligent, and combine three of my favorite topics: history, literature, and politics. My favorite episode so far is episode #10, "One-step Thinking and Dangerous Politics." Truly, there are some remarkable and little-known stories in this podcast that are simply astounding. It is a great format, and the show is really entertaining. I highly recommend giving it a listen.
