Don't You Dare Hire That Applicant!

On this episode of the Rethink Marketing Podcast, Eric Reed and Colin Jeffries get vulnerable and share their learnings from hiring marketing and sales professionals of all levels. Sentiments around age and tech-savviness may be wrong for certain candidates. Are candidates with specific industry experience without marketing principles better than candidates that know marketing but who don't have industry experience? And let's not forget the importance of giving grace to new hires. How is remote work impacting recruiting and engaging the best candidates? Are we passing up outstanding candidates in favor of those who are in the hiring manager's network? Here's a key question: is this person going to be a cultural fit for our team? Answer These Questions Before Considering a Rebrand

Answer These Questions Before Considering a Rebrand

On this episode of the Rethink Marketing Podcast, Eric Reed and Colin Jeffries discuss the misses they've seen with rebrands and brand refreshes. Asking ourselves some specific questions up front may result in achieving success, whether or not a rebrand is involved. First, is the business problem one that a rebrand can actually solve? If pricing, customer segmentation, employee satisfaction, or another challenge is the main cause for concern, a rebrand may not be the right answer. Many marketing leaders opt for a rebrand as a temporary solution to a long-term problem, so gaining a good grasp of the problem up front is key. Rebrands can be highly expensive, including lots of hidden costs that the marketing team may not be considering, so making sure we know what success looks like and what our other options are can be crucial in making the right choices.

How to Grow Your Marketing Team in 2023

How to Grow Your Marketing Team in 2023

On this episode of the Rethink Marketing Podcast, Eric Reed and Colin Jeffries discuss the timely topic of insourcing and outsourcing marketing and sales talent. It starts with understanding the ultimate objectives. Having an attentive problem-solver who is bought-in and engaged is vastly different than looking for anyone who can complete a project by Friday at noon. Hiring W2 employees may not be the right answer for your team, but are gig workers the best option? If it takes lots of time for the Chief Marketing Officer or Head of Sales to manage gig workers or contractors, maybe it's not a flaw in the system, it could be an issue with communication or scope. This is a must-listen conversation for anyone looking to grow their marketing team in 2023.

Inside the Mind: Keys to Stop Overthinking Sales and Marketing

Inside the Mind: Keys to Stop Overthinking Sales and Marketing

On this episode of the Rethink Marketing Podcast, Eric Reed and Colin Jeffries chat about managing anxiety, stress, overthinking, and negative self-talk in marketing and sales. How do we let go of what we think will happen and instead embrace doing what is required for the best outcome to happen? Negativity perpetuates while positivity requires intentionality. Sometimes struggling in sales is the perfect inflection point to reevaluate what we are doing well and where there are opportunities to change and improve. Fundamentally, it all begins with what you specifically do and how we can connect outcomes to the foundation.

Show Me a Second Place Finisher and I'll Show You a Winner!

Show Me a Second Place Finisher and I'll Show You a Winner!

On this episode of the Rethink Marketing Podcast, Eric Reed and Colin Jeffries converse about why being in second position may actually be superior to being in first. While counterintuitive, there is tremendous power in proactively building relationships even while another provider is in place. As salespeople, we often think of selling as running plays in a sports setting, but is there ever an end to the game? Taking calculated moves and building proactive, slower relationships will eventually earn us the position of a trusted advisor. From there, closing the sale is easy and the prospect is often much more realistic if we aren't their first provider.

Why We Should Make it Harder on Customers

Why We Should Make it Harder on Customers

On this episode of the Rethink Marketing Podcast, Eric Reed and Colin Jeffries discuss why making it more difficult for customers to conduct business with you may be a competitive differentiator for your brand. Going mass-market with high volume is the best strategy for some businesses, but often a strategic position of niche elitism results in higher margins. Which one makes sense for your organization? Customer experience gurus keep telling sales and marketing leaders to make it easier on customers, but this is a classic case of conventional wisdom being flat wrong--for some business decision makers!
