How to Not Fail at Retirement with Author Mike Drak
Most people are worried about having enough money saved for retirement; but financial planning alone, without lifestyle planning, is a ticket to Retirement Hell. In this episode of The Retirement Power Hour, Joe Allaria, CFP®, sits down with Author Mike Drak to discuss his book “Longevity Lifestyle by Design” and how to avoid failing at retirement.
About Our Guest
After a thirty-eight-year career within the financial services industry, Mike Drak experienced what he has now termed “retirement shock”. As a result, Mike spent the next 6 years doing research about retirement which resulted in his best-selling books “Longevity Lifestyle by Design” and “Victory Lap Retirement” based on his realization that full-stop retirement doesn’t work for most people." Mike works with his wife, an investment advisor, to help clients design a fulfilling retirement.

Listener Question
I am trying to get information on spousal benefits and just watched your episode 12, excellent presentation. My husband is 73 and began taking SS benefits at full retirement age. I am now 66 and eligible for my own full retirement benefit, but a financial advisor recommended filing for the spousal benefit until switching to my own (higher) benefit at age 70. Do we both need to be born before 1953 for me to have this option? If you can answer, that would be so helpful since it is very difficult to get an appointment with SSA

I was born in 1953. I have been collecting 1/2 of my husband’s SS benefits and continuing to grow my own. As I turned 70 in February, how long can I continue to collect 1/2 of his? Is there an age limit? Thank you for your time. I am (husband) 69 years old, still working, not claiming social security. My wife is 70 years old and was born in May 1953. She has been receiving social security for the last 2yrs based on her short working years and her benefits are much smaller. Can she claim spousal benefits based on my working record, but I have not claimed SS yet? Planning to take my SS next year when I turn 70 yrs. Thank you in advance. My husband is already drawing his benefits…he was born in October of 1952. I’ll hit FRA in September of 2023. Do I qualify for the restricted filing application? Submit Your Questions

Annuity Pros, Cons, and What Are They Anyway?
Annuities seem to have a negative connotation within the financial industry, but do they deserve it? Are annuities good or are they bad? Because there are so many different types of annuities, it's hard to generalize that they are either good or bad. Each annuity should be evaluated independently based on each individual’s situation.
On episode #19, host Joe Allaria is joined by Partner and Wealth Advisor of CarsonAllaria Wealth Management, Mark Allaria, CFP®, as the two discuss the pros and cons of annuities, as well as the different types out there.

Information You Need
I stumbled across The Retirement Power Hour while doing a Google search about social security. I had some questions that I couldn’t quite find the answers to anywhere else. Joe’s program on “Social Security Loopholes” addressed some of those questions, and he was kind enough to help me with the remainder when I contacted him through his website. He knows his stuff and has earned a new fan!
Great Podcast for your Retirement Questions.
I discovered for the first time yesterday the Retirement Power Hour Podcast moderated by Joe Alaria.
Joe provides straight forward social security and investment information and wisdom. His approach contains basic sound information and not the drama put forth by the financial media and their investment clubs. He will also take your detailed questions and provide answers.
He answered my question.
I have included this podcast on my podcast download list and now look forward to hearing the next episode.
Thanks
Tom
