Save Room Reviews: Sonic the Hedgehog (2020‪)‬ The Save Room

    • Leisure

The year is 2020 and we've survived many terrible video games adaptations since the dawn of gaming. When news hit of a Sonic movie adaptation being in the works a few years back, the internet groaned over what would potentially be another needless video game movie, as well as a box office flop. Luckily for Sonic fans, we finally got a film adaptation of the blue blur that in the least is passable. If you weren't sold on checking it out--well, good news for you: your faithful Save Room Boys watched the movie so you didn't have to.

The journey of this film is almost as tumultuous as Sonic's history with video games. When the initial design for the hedgehog's screen debut was revealed last year, the internet was horrified by what they considered to actually be the blue devil himself. But Fowler and team worked hard to deliver a redesign that both fans and the team were happy with. Their work and care paid off.

While we don't get quite the testament to Sonic's lineage like we did with Spidey and 2018's Into the Spiderverse, we do get a treatment with just enough references and fun easter eggs for long-time fans. The movie is a fun, fast-dash of a time that will have kids laughing and fans mostly satisfied. With a cast of A-list celebrities we get what is probably the best we'll get for the franchise on the silver screen (that is until the inevitable sequel).

So join us as we give our thoughts on the film and bear witness as Daniel makes Kevin suffer through talks of the games, his affinity for Soaps, and his long-standing love for the franchise.
