Welcome to another episode of The Self Help Hipster Podcast. Where we discuss a monthly book we've read and quickly move over to our pop-culture pleasures and our obsessions.
Bill O'Reilly Freakout: We'll do it live!
30 DAY CHALLENGE
We recap the Morning Pages experience, which Lianne will continue for her 30 Day Challenge. Andrew will switch to Data Tracking, which ties in with the book of the month AND our next book.
For a great Dutch read on The Artist Way that is currently sweeping the nation once more because of the 25-year anniversary of this book, check out this article by Merel (De Groene Meisjes): http://www.degroenemeisjes.nl/morning-pages-the-artists-way/
For a great English interview with Julia Cameron, the creator of the Artist's Way with Brian Koppelman: https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/the-moment-with-brian-koppelman/id814550071
BOOK OF THE MONTH
Jon Acuff's book Finish: Give Yourself The Gift of Done (2017)!
Jon Acuff is an author and motivational speaker and this book is all about tackling and overcoming perfectionism so you'll keep working on the stuff you WANT to be working on. In his book, with a dry sense of humor, Jon talks about a lot of great strategies in both action and mindset to overcome the things that keep you from finishing your work and projects.
POP CULTURE PLEASURES
Meme Songs that I LOVE: https://vm.tiktok.com/ZSarn6qk/

168 Hours by Laura Vanderkam. Actually inspired by Susannah and perfect for Andrew who is going to do some datatracking for the upcoming episode.
See you then!
s04e02 - The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron
In this episode, Lianne Keemink and Andrew Chin discuss the book "The Artist's Way, by Julia Cameron".
Among other things..
30 Day Challenge
Andrew's challenge was: Take one deep breath a day. He did and found that it helped with relaxation and composure. Drew's also watching/listening to the Abraham Hicks meditations.
Lianne's challenge was: Act on one whim a day. I was a bit 'challenged' by the totally normal times, but it worked well. It is very satisfying!
Next 30-day challenge for both of us: the Morning Pages from The Artist's Way!
Book of the Month
This month Drew and I discussed The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron!
It is a book published 25 years ago by Julia Cameron, who has an impressive body of work of mostly non-fiction, but also some fiction and screenplays.
It's currently 12$ on Amazon and 18€ on bol.com, but we've mainly included these links so you can read about the book: If you're able to, buy your book at the bookstore near you so we will still have bookstores in the future!
The main things Drew and I got out of The Artist's Way?
The Morning Pages: Every morning you write 3 pages in a journal, stream-of-consciousness. Chris Winfield explains it fairly well right here. Andrew and I are doing this for our 30-day challenge for the next podcast, so we can talk a little more in-depth about the actual experience.
The Artist's Date: A recommended 2-hour period dedicated to a creative project. You can find more information about that here!
Julia Cameron is a very talented writer, so we also talk about her beautiful style (which makes sense because practicing every morning with the morning pages definitely helps) and the inspiration you can find in this book for creativity in your life, in whatever shape or form most suits you!
Pop Culture Pleasures
Rain on me by Lady Gaga & Ariana Grande: Drew and I are SUCKERS for a good pop song!
Never Have I Ever on Netflix: A wonderfully inclusive-but-not-just-for-the-sake-of-it show about growing up.
Booksmart on Amazon Prime
Watching the Avenger Movies in order during the Totally Normal Times. Ha.

Technically this might still be pop culture, but I talk about my deep dive in the history of the production of Star Wars movies, particularly 7,8 and 9 who seem to have made PRETTY F*****G SEPARATELY despite the intended trilogy they were supposed to be.

s03e10 - Super Attractor by Gabrielle Bernstein
Hi, so glad you are listening to a new episode of the Self Help Hipster Podcast. The show where Lianne Keemink (The Self Help Hipster) and Andrew Chin (andrewchin.co) discuss a self-help book.
This time it's Super Attractor by Gabrielle Bernstein.
Andrew's 30 Day Challenge was getting out of bed at 08:30 and we're happy to report he succeeded! Listen to him divulge his success rate and how it worked.
Lianne's 30 Day Challenge was doing something nice for someone else for 30 days, and she was very happy about doing this. Highly recommended!
Book of the Month
We talk about Super Attractor by Gabrielle Bernstein, Gabby's latest book. This is a book about spirituality to the Nth degree so it's gotta be your thing, but there are some very smart and interesting takes in the book.
We're skeptical about manifesting as explained by most of the Law of Attraction but there is merit in some of the philosophy, and Gabby explains some of those parts well!
Pop Culture Pleasures
* (Andrew): Blinding Lights by the Weekend
* (Lianne) Spotify Top 100 Playlists, and Rick & Morty
* (Andrew): Essential Oil Diffuser & Lulu Lemon for Men * (Lianne): Her letterbox in her office that she writes different quotes on each week

Let us vote on what books you do!
I listen to this podcast because it’s nice to feel like I’m not alone in trying to get my life together and other people are trying out new things for self growth too. I like how chill Lianne and Andrew are. Their 30 day challenges are fun to listen too. I wish they uploaded a bit more often but I get that life happens. I do also wish they’d let us vote on which books to read!
LOVE this podcast
Self help minus the corniness! It also has pop culture, book reviews, and has introduced me to so many things. I love the hosts of the show, listening to them is like listening to friends who always have interesting things to talk about! Definitely recommend
Get to the point
I downloaded this for a long run, hoping to pick up some tips. 7 minutes in and still nothing of substance has been said.... horrible. They have only dragged on about eating donughts in front of a mike and how they aren’t trying to be rude- not one tip “on getting your life together” once. Had to stop running to right this review this is how awful it was.
