Episode 1: Romantic
"When love beckons to you, follow [it]
And when [its] wings enfold you yield to [it],
Though the sword hidden among [its] pinions may wound you.
For even as love crowns you so shall [it] crucify you.
Even as [it] is for your growth so is [it] for your pruning." - Kahlil Gibran, On Love
Episode 2: Realist
"These pains you feel are messengers. Listen to them." - Rumi
Episode 3: Sweater
"Love is being there every day, to keep someone warm, to hold them through the night, to make them feel cozy." - Sweater
Episode 4: Decision
"Romantics value intensity over stability. Realists value security over passion. But both are often disappointed, for few people can live happily at either extreme." - Esther Perel, Mating in Captivity
Episode 5: An Argument That Should Be Simple.
"A decided heart looks for a solution. An undecided heart looks for a way out." - Tom, a regular at the Bramasole Diner
Episode 6: End
"With every commitment there is much that it rejects. Much that it excludes." - Adam Phillips, Unforbidden Pleasures
I listen to this every winter. So foreword thinking, produced with craft.
Fantastic, intimate storytelling
I can’t think of a piece of audio fiction that felt more intimate and closely-observed than The Shadows. It’s zany at times, deeply thoughtful, rich in its sound design, and totally worth your time.
Looking forward to “Appearances,” the new show from Kaitlin’s Mermaid Palace podcast operation.
I binged this in a day. It’s amazing. I love the story and the audio quality. Great job Kaitlin!
Update: I still think about this story from time to time. It will stick with you.
