The SideStreets Podcast

Nick is an excellent host which is my favorite compliment to get and to give. Listening to episodes about local bands like Prom Body and Sun Bones and preparing to go on Romo Tonight to talk about my comic project, it’s thrilling to find a show that talks with so much respect about this city and the fun it’s having as well as producing. I’m spreading a message about a cartoon comic book parody that takes place IN DOWNTOWN TUCSON and Side Streets is on the pulse of the local scene. I think anyone promoting something creative in Tucson should talk to Nick.

I originally downloaded this podcast to gain some helpful tips to avoid traffic. My morning commute has become increasingly arduous since a local artisanal doughnut chain had expanded in my area. As the first episode that I downloaded began to play, I immediately began to regret trading my GPS to my cousin Skip for a small lot (about 30 or so) of 1980's Red Sox baseball cards. In my defense, I felt that I no longer needed it. At first, I thought the great show to which I was listening was merely a lighthearted preamble to a hard-hitting series of time-saving driving strategies (Try avenues not boulevards, drive in the direction of the wind, etc.). But after the hour of entertaining talk had passed, I realized that not only was I driving on the green of the 6th hole of a golf course four towns over, it was also a really great show. So now, I spend my mornings at my new job, repairing the green of a 6th hole of a golf course four towns over while listening to episodes of the great SideStreets podcast. And although I do not blame the talented host, Nick Prevenas, for my recent misfortunes, I do hope he would be willing to take some of these Wade Boggs doubles off of my hands.

The thing about Nick is that he doesn’t do anything with less than full effort. He knows so much about so much and it comes through in each episode. Thoughtful planning, great production, exuding passion.

Nick Prevenas is an all around good dude. He's very enthusiastic about his interview subjects but not in a "fanboy" kind of way. Even when he interviews Best Show host Tom Scharpling. It's a Tucson based podcast but if even if you (like me) don't live there or know much about it, there is still a lot to enjoy. I recommend the Tom Scharpling and Jesse Jarnow episodes to start, then dive right into the rest.
