The Sleep Is A Skill Podcast, exists to transform the conversation around sleep on the planet! Each episode is a conversation with industry leaders designed to deliver practical takeaways to improve your sleep. The intention is to shift the paradigm of wellness to make SLEEP the #1 focus in our journey towards great health.
For years, my sleep was a problem in my life. When I went through my own challenging period of insomnia while traveling internationally, I felt like there was nowhere to turn. After obsessively learning all that I could about chronobiology and circadian rhythms — what I learned changed my life and I’m committed to sharing what I've learned (and continue to learn!).
Mollie is the creator of Sleep Is A Skill, a company that optimizes how people sleep through a unique blend of technology, accountability, and behavioral change. The company was born from “scratching her own itch” after a lifetime of poor sleep habits culminated into a mega-challenging bout of insomnia for months without end. With a background in psychology & human behavior, she went down the rabbit hole to solve her own sleep disturbances without sleeping aids. She became fascinated with chronobiology, and by extension, its practical applications to restore a state of homeostasis not only to her sleep but also to her life as a whole. Knowing the difference between a life with sleep and without, she’s now dedicated her life to sharing the forgotten skill set of sleep.

041: Colleen Cutcliffe, Ph.D., Co-Founder and CEO of Pendulum: Microbiome-derived Medicine, Control Blood Sugar & Improve Your Sleep [Particularly Wake-Ups!]
Your gut health plays a big role in not only your health but your sleep! Our microbiome contributes to digestion, gut lining, metabolism, and ultimately sending signals to the brain for things like blood sugar levels and cravings. These then causing a roller coaster effect on your mood, performance, and sleep quality. Some factors such as food intake, stress, aging, and drugs like antibiotics can change the microbiome dynamic in your body, and sometimes causing it to disappear. Various strains of the microbiome are pivotal in metabolism that its absence can increase risks of pre-diabetes, diabetes, obesity, and other health problems. However, more drug intake to solve these problems can cause further damage to the microbiome. Therefore, Colleen Cutcliffe, Ph, D, created Pendulum Therapeutics, a medicine that has the efficacy of a drug but maintains safety like probiotics. The clinical trials have shown this to be effective in monitoring glucose levels for various types of people, which in turn, also improves their sleep quality.
