Why I Quit the 90 Day Challenge Early: Redefining Consistency on Social Media

Why I Quit the 90 Day Challenge Early: Redefining Consistency on Social Media

What happened to the infamous 90-day challenge, courtesy of the incredible Lacey Gebo? I quit early and i'm giving you the total rundown on why in today's episode. My definition of consistency doesn't look the same as a lot of social media managers out there.

We're constantly hearing about how important it is to post with a high frequency. But what happens when the quality of those posts goes down dramatically? Our audience notices. My engagement was actually going down during the challenge and I had to take a step back to re-evaluate.

I'm sharing this because I want you to see how you might be sabotaging your engagement by mirroring the people around you. Other people in your industry might be posting a ton of education and seeing great results. Does that mean that you should too? Not necessarily.

In this episode, I'm chatting about:

    Social Media is DEAD!?

    Social Media is DEAD!?

I got a DM the other day that had me scratching my head, and I thought, "Let's unpack this together." So, imagine this: leaving behind a booming salon, a bustling team, and all the hair things to start a social media business . And someone says, "Why leave the comfort zone for an industry that's supposedly on life support?" Hold up, what? Social media is dead? Cue my jaw-drop moment.

So, let's play detective. If you tell me social media is dead, i'm hearing "it's not working for ME" and I want to know why. The first step in moving past this limiting belief is an audit of your current page. What isn't serving you anymore? A big one I see often: using captions as short as a coffee order without any depth. It worked two years ago, but not today! Social media's evolved, but it's not dead.

People crave feels and stories since 2020 hit. Influencers spill the tea on products, sure, but they make you feel why it matters. As beauty pros, we've got the golden ticket to showcase transformations and the vibes behind 'em. Get your audience to feel something, and voila!

But wait, there's more. Tune in to hear the three key points I would audit in your socials if you think social media is dead.

    In this episode, I cover:
Why hair shots are simply not doing the trick anymore Social media isn't your entire marketing strategy! Are you drowning your audience in educational posts?

Changing the Industry Standard: A Candid Conversation with the ‘UNmotivational’ educator, Krista Storm

Changing the Industry Standard: A Candid Conversation with the ‘UNmotivational’ educator, Krista Storm

As a new stylist, someone may have told you it was possible to make 100,000 behind the chair. But did you actually know what that would take? For today's guest, Krista Storm, she had to find out for herself.

Krista became a hair stylist in 2007 and that was exactly what she was told. But she wasn't given any of the actual information about the amount of effort or time that would take. After eight years spent barely breaking 30,000, she finally found her own techniques and systems that made room for her to thrive. Now, she's a salon owner and educator changing the game for stylists with the mission to constantly evolve.

I loved this conversation with Krista today. She hits the nail on the head when she describes herself as the  ‘UNmotivational’ educator. We're not getting fluff. We're not being made to feel bad about the burn out we've experienced. She's real about what it takes to make it in this business and it's such a treat.

    In this episode, we discuss:
embracing your natural essence online showing up by starting small the inevitability of burn out and what you can do when it happens why following trends isn't getting you closer to your next dream clientConnect with Krista:

    14. Rewriting Our Money Stories Outside of the Salon with Misty Jayne, Life and Money Coach for Hairstylists

Do you ever feel like no matter how much money you have coming through working behind the chair, you simply can’t hold on to it? It’s immediately going to bills, debt, groceries, and suddenly you’re at a loss. Well, I’ve got a treat for you today!

I had the pleasure of sitting down with my friend Misty Jayne, a life and money coach for hairstylists. As a stylist, she saw the need for financial literacy in her own life and her peers. She discusses her personal struggles with debt and burnout. Getting herself out of debt revealed a hidden passion - sharing her insights and helping stylists reach financial freedom.
A ton of advice you see online is all about how to make more. But this advice neglects to tell us how to manage the money we come by. Misty also shares what it was like showing up in a new way once she decided she wanted to pivot in her career.
It can be really intimidating at the beginning of any endeavor to start showing up publicly in a different way. We talk all about how to navigate shifts in our career with a bold approach.

    In this episode, we discuss:
How financial literacy changed Misty’s life The first time Misty showed up as a money expert and how that changed her life Overcoming the fear of judgment on social media

    13. “F*ck Your Fear”: Real Talk with Sarai, the Platinum Giraffe

    13. “F*ck Your Fear”: Real Talk with Sarai, the Platinum Giraffe

Welcome back to the second season of The Social Stylist Podcast! If you’ve ever asked the question “what’s an ‘appropriate’ way for me to show up?” this episode is for you. Today’s guest is going to break you out of that box you’ve put yourself in and say “f**k your fear.” Can you guess who i’m talking about?

We’re back with a bang with a very special guest: Sirai, AKA “The Platinum Giraffe.” Sirai has been making waves in the hair industry by leading with unapologetic authenticity and no f*cking fear. Her community, The Balanced Stylist Society, is taking hair education beyond technique and into self-care and embodiment.

Sirai has an incredible capacity for staying open and bringing her darkest moment to light. She makes a lovely distinction that I want to pull out for you here: “Vulnerability is sharing what you're currently going through.Transparency is sharing what you've been through.” So she shares what it was like to tell her audience her current struggles with an eating disorder and how that felt entirely different than sharing past struggles.

I’m so excited for you to tune in because I really you’re going to feel lighter and more audacious by the end of this episode!

    In this episode, we cover:
The importance of holding space for mental health while running a businessTaking messy and imperfect action to build genuine connectionsThe value of sharing personal struggles and stories with your audience. Balancing social media consumption and creating intentional content.
