The Sound of Play podcast

I love this podcast and could listen to it over and over again. I was listening to an older C&R episode and decided to check it out. And turns out I absolutely love this podcast. Unfortunately I was too late because it was over before I ever found it. Well at least there are a lot of episodes to listen to.

Incredibly comprehensive and well made podcast about a topic that continues to be criminally unrecognized. Great stuff!

Leon and Ryan do an incredible job of bringing an eclectic mix of games music, both old and new, to listeners every week. I love that music picks from the hosts, guests and the community all come with a little background about why the track is significant to them. I look forward to listening every week, hopefully for a long time to come.

This is my favorite podcast by far. The speak fondly and reverently about the music they share and the games that brought them those tunes. Lately they’ve been getting a lot of composer interviews as well which are especially rich and fascinating. My favorite thing about this podcast, and the other podcasts from this network (Named Cane and Rinse) is they have a professional attitude while being really genuine fans. The episodes are timeless because they aren’t about “what have you been ______ing this week?” So you can tune in any time, to any episode, in any order (although some much older ones have slightly worse audio). Sound of Play neatly combines talk radio with music. The subject matter is video games, but with video games becoming more mainstream the Sound of Play crew's broad reverence for games will hopefully become more common. The result here is a very warm video game journalism broken up by a very diverse selection of music. The composer interviews are a real treat and have been coming more frequently, but the basic format is solid even without a guest.
