Young Elnor and the Qowat Milat

First, as has been true with the second and third episodes, the fourth episode begins with a flashback. We meet a young Elnor and Zani of the Qowat Milat.

Young Elnor: “My feelings are hurt. I actually did think you were fond of me.” – STPC 008 – Star Trek: Picard – S1E4 Absolute Candor (03:23)

    I like you very much. – STPC 008 – Star Trek: Picard S1E4 (03:33)

The two Elnors don’t match up. He had blue eyes and has an American accent as a child, but has brown eyes and talks in an Australian accent as an adult. Where does the accent come from? No one else had that accent. I tried three times to make this point in the podcast, but Ruthie didn’t seem to understand my point. It’s not the accent, but that he didn’t have it as a child AND no one else in the village had it. Laris has an Irish accent, but we don’t meet her as a child and don’t meet people with who he grew up, so it works. In Elnor’s example, we see his past and get the context of where he grew up. It’s not a huge deal, but it did take me out of the episode a tiny bit.

We see Commodore Oh visit Dr. Agnes Jurati, but we don’t see what is said. Then, later, we see Jurati get a disruptor from… no knows where? This does bring suspicion to Jurati and her motives, but we do believe this is a red herring. What we couldn’t get past was the VERY prominent ears of Oh’s. They seem to REALLY stick out beyond what we saw last week’s episode. See below.

    The F-Bombs!

Like Discovery’s S1E5 Choose Your Pain, this episode featured two F-bombs. The first is by Laris, who actually said “feckers”, but the captions put a U instead of an E. The other one is more blatantly used by Admiral Kirsten Clancy around the time of this screen capture. This second one was pretty startling, both to the viewers and to Picard himself.

There is no peril here, only the delusions of a once-great man desperate to matter. – STPC 006 – Star Trek: Picard S1E2 – Maps and Legends (24:10)

I wasn’t too happy that they made that choice. I want to make it clear: IT DOES NOT OFFEND ME. There was an outcry from some viewers when Discovery’s Tilly and Stamets cursed. Some were offended; others thought it wasn’t becoming of a Starfleet officer; many others thought at the time that it made it difficult for them to share Discovery with their children. like how they were exposed to Star Trek as children by their parents. It’s that last reason that makes me disappointed that they made this choice. They don’t need to give ammunition to the haters!

Listening to Brian and Ruthie is like hanging out and chatting with people who have been Star Trek fans forever. They know how to laugh and also know Trek!!! Great podcast, they make Star Trek Discovery even better.

Overproduced nightmare

Unprepared. Obsessed with unnecessary sounds. If it takes three episodes to discuss one episode of a show you’re doing something wrong.

...Can’t take constructive criticism and they go off topic too much!

I am being honest in my review! There are times that I enjoy the podcast, but most times I don’t! Hence the reason for my rating. The hosts are ok but they go way off topic and that’s ok, but way too much in my opinion! There was one instance also where someone else gave them an average review, and the hosts did not take it well! Instead of taking the constructive Reviews they went off on a rant about it! They said that why would people leave a bad review? And who does that? Really? Isn’t that the point of reviews? to get either good, average or bad reviews! I understand that you’re not gonna please everyone. But when someone puts out a product they should expect to get all sorts of feedback from their listeners! People have opinions about them, just like they have their opinions about Star Trek Discovery!
