Welcome to The Story of My Pet Podcast! I’m you’re host, Julie Marty-Pearson, Fur Mom, lifelong animal lover, pet enthusiast, and all around animal advocate. I started this podcast to document and immortalize our favorite pets, past and present. As I collect tales from my friends, family, animal supporters and rescue advocates, I’ve realized there is much more to our pet stories than precious memories. As I interview pet parents from all over the world, many important themes have immerged. First, the bond between human and animal is strong and lasts well beyond the physical lifespan of our fur babies. Next, I have realized that pet parents are advocates, whether they rescued their precious pets, volunteer their time in animal shelters, or run their own rescue group, we all have the same passion; To save as many animals as we can. Finally, whether we have human kids or not, Fur Moms and Dads believe their pets are their chosen kids. We love them as members of our family and will do anything for them. Together, we can advocate and educate to ensure more animals are saved. To do that, each episode features animal rescue groups, shelters, and nonprofit organizations focused on saving the animals in need throughout our world. I hope you will join me on this fun and exciting journey and help save animals in your community!

In the newest episode of The Story of My Pet Podcast you'll meet my guest Joyce A. Miller. Joyce adopted six racing greyhounds over the past twenty years and danced with several of them. Miller lives in the Church Hill section of Richmond, Virginia with her husband and her latest retired racing greyhound. Before she started writing, Miller worked for over 30 years as a mechanical designer at a nuclear physics laboratory. Let's Talk Compassion Fatigue, Cat Behavior and More!

Let's Talk Compassion Fatigue, Cat Behavior and More!

Welcome to another episode of the Story of My Pet podcast! Today, I've been joined by Molly Kelsey from Auckland, New Zealand. Molly is an avid foster and former vet nurse who has worked with animals for over 10 years in companion animal practice and volunteering in both New Zealand and overseas. Last year, she completed her postgrad studies in feline behavior and now runs her own cat behavior consulting business. Molly lives with her partner and their rats, and in her free time, she enjoys listening to true crime podcasts, and doing embroidery. She has a lot of experience in the animal industry, and she'll be sharing her story with us today.
Molly’s work as the Cat Counsellor centers around teaching owners to understand their cats better and help them thrive in their environment. Molly started fostering animals when she was 17 and worked in the veterinary field for three years before taking a break due to illness. She decided to become a cat behaviorist after seeing a lot of cats suffer mentally and their owners not understanding why, as well as the lack of qualified people to help in this area.
You can contact Molly and follow her on social media via the links below.

Molly also discussed an animal rescue organization she supports, Raining Rabbits Rescue in Auckland, New Zealand.

The Power of Connection Between People and Horses

The Power of Connection Between People and Horses

Emma Davis is the CEO and founder of Mikko's Choice, an animal rescuer and advocate, and an equestrian. She has a lifelong love of animals, and her first soul dog, a wolf hybrid named Mo and mustang Mikko have been the catalysts for her passion and advocacy.
Emma has had a lifelong love of animals, which was kickstarted by her first rescue, a wolf hybrid named Mo. After initially meeting a wild mustang at the ranch she worked on, she fell off another horse and broke her back and had to leave the ranch all together. After she healed, she found the same wild horse she had rescued prior to her injury, now on Craigslist after bouncing from home to home and was in bad physical and mental shape. Emma adopted him and named him Mikko. She worked with trainers and eventually took over his training herself, and after two years of hard work, Mikko got to the point where he could go on trail rides and help other troubled horses. Emma learned from Mikko that any animal can overcome its trauma and issues with love and patience. He also inspired her to start the cbd company Mikko’s Choice, which produces cbd products for horses and other animals.

Great podcast for bringing awareness to rescue challenges

I love tuning in to be educated on the ways that we can help animal rescue (foster, adopt, spay/neuter), since this is a huge problem! The more people talk about these things, the better for rescues that are overworked. Thank you for bringing continued awareness and education to these issues.
