Breadth vs Depth

This podcast focuses on the importance of widening horizons beyond the immediate daily grind of “greedy professions”. It convincingly makes the argument that breadth among disciplines (e.g. cognitive psychology, creativity, performance, mental health) can lead to far greater returns over the long run than a pure focus on depth within one’s profession. Gilbert is the perfect interviewer, having done extensive research on his subjects beforehand and asking insightful questions that get to the heart of the matter. He produces thought provoking and candid conversations while keeping the listener engaged. As a corporate lawyer, he himself is the perfect example of prioritizing breadth! Highly recommended!

We strive to become experts, defined as knowing more and more about less and less — until we eventually know everything about nothing. Very healthy to be reminded that we are surrounded by life’s rich pageant.
