E27: Talk Nerdy to Me, GPT-4o: OpenAI's Latest Chat Capabilities (and World Domination Plans?)

OpenAI's latest GPT-4 upgrade has Monkey and Badger both amazed and a little concerned. We dive into the mind-blowing new features: human-like voices, lightning-fast responses, and conversations that flow like never before.

If you’re a math student or a science student, great news! Your life has just gotten way easier and potentially more optimized if you learn how to use this tool correctly!

If you’re an investor in a company like Duolingo $DUOL, caution is advised! Badger notes that learning languages through gamification and a fancy-looking app will no longer be sufficient, while Monkey wonders whether Adobe $ADBE is in a similar quandary; memories of Kodak $KODK linger.

Is the future of therapy and coaching ... robotic?

Join us as we explore the potential and pitfalls of this groundbreaking technology. Is it time to rewatch 'Her' with a newfound sense of unease, or excitement?

We discuss reasons to be both sceptical and optimistic.

E26: Telescope Investing Reunion! Lessons from Pandemic Investing & Should You YOLO on Rocket Lab?

Remember the Telescope Investing podcast? Hosts Luke and Albert are back for a special reunion episode! While Krzysztof is taking a well-deserved break, Luke and Albert have plenty to catch up on since their last show in 2022.

They'll discuss how investing fueled their early retirement, the lessons learned from pandemic-era stock picks (both the wins and the losses!), and the exciting new companies they're watching. Expect laughter as they reminisce about Luke's surprise dance routine at Albert's wedding. And of course, they'll swap their favorite (and maybe not-so-favorite) TV recommendations.

If you're looking for an investing podcast that's as insightful as it is entertaining, this episode is for you. Join Luke and Albert for a candid and informative conversation about money, markets, and life's unexpected twists and turns.

Companies mentioned in this episode include Shopify ($SHOP), MercadoLibre ($MELI), Nvidia ($NVDA), CuriosityStream ($CURI), Fiverr ($FVRR), Teladoc Health ($TDOC), Block ($SQ), Mastercard ($MA), Rocket Lab ($RKLB), SpaceX (private company), Shockwave Medical ($SWAV), TransMedics ($TMDX), Palantir ($PLTR), ZScaler ($ZS), and Trump Media & Technology Group ($DJT).

E25: Tesla's Autonomy Gamble: Invest or Avoid? + Founder-Led Debate

E25: Tesla's Autonomy Gamble: Invest or Avoid? + Founder-Led Debate

In Episode 25, Luke reflects on his magnum-opus 50-day portfolio review on X, including selling $AMZN “too early” to buy a couple of cars. We debate whether that was a mistake or using money appropriately to live fully?

    https://twitter.com/7LukeHallard/status/1781627421243908513

Monkey wonders how Luke got through 2008 beating the market by double-digits: was it luck in owning $ISRG at the right time, or an aggressive risk profile appropriate for life-stage and life circumstances?

How to Beat the Market Principle 2: Look for founder-led companies like Tesla's $TSLA Elon Musk, Crowdstrike’s $CRWD George Kurtz and Apple's $AAPL Steve Jobs. What does founder-led mean and why does that matter?

Tesla earnings results included the promise of a lower-price-point entry car and a cross-roads for investors according to Musk: "Only invest in Tesla if you believe we can solve autonomy" -- is this a fair claim to make?

Tesla also made vital regulatory progress in China in terms of autonomous driving which was enough for Monkey to add it to his King of the Jungle portfolio; we review and look back on our strategies and how they've played out thus far, six months into the contest.

E24: The Hidden Costs of Moving Money: A Wise Perspective

E24: The Hidden Costs of Moving Money: A Wise Perspective

This week's podcast is a repost from the 7investing podcast feed, where Luke & Krzysztof are Lead Advisors.

    ---

If you’ve ever travelled abroad or tried to send money across international borders, hidden fees and unfair exchange rates have no doubt been a massive and expensive headache.

In this week's episode of the 7investing podcast, Lead Advisors Luke Hallard & Krzysztof Piekarski sit down with Rina Wulfing, Senior Manager for the North American policy team at Wise ($WIZEY) to discuss the company's original founding story and mission: to empower its users with a transparent system that sends money cost effectively and instantly across borders.

We discuss junk fees — what they are and how Wise is working with regulatory agencies to limit their adverse impact on customers.

We also discuss why direct access to US banking systems is limited to certain types of financial institution, and why this hits US consumers and businesses (and visitors!) in the pocket.

If you ever travel internationally, or are looking to upgrade your legacy banking arrangements, today's episode is a must listen conversation that will give you better insight into the finance industry, and will save you money!

E23: How to Invest in Trends, How Will AI Impact Society, & Tesla's Pricing Strategy for FSD

E23: How to Invest in Trends, How Will AI Impact Society, & Tesla's Pricing Strategy for FSD

The wildlife are getting restless - Badger’s motorcycle has been stolen!

He's making up the cost by ensuring he's invested in the world's greatest companies, and in today's episode, we discuss the first of his investing desirables: does the company align with powerful trends that are shaping the future? Are ethics and doing good for the world part of that requirement? How does a company like Nvidia $NVDA compare with Celsius $CELH or Lululemon $LULU?

Monkey meanwhile urges caution about investing in AI for social, cultural and potentially revolutionary reasons.

Does Tesla’s moves to drop the price of its Full Self Driving (FSD) software suggest visionary brilliance from Elon Musk’s chess game against regulatory pressures, is it more of a marketing strategy or a way to collect more data to widen the company’s lead in self-driving data? Or is it simply a cash grab to juice the top line?!

We’re living in uncertain times that are changing ever more rapidly and we need to keep cautious about all our predictions.

E22: Is Fear Your Financial Foe?

E22: Is Fear Your Financial Foe?

Is fear stopping you from investing and building your wealth?

Investing is risky and fear-inducing, but is also one of the most direct paths to living the life you want.

There are many obstacles, one of the biggest of which is fear. On today’s special Owl’s Nest episode, we define fear and suggest ways to become more intimate with it.

Badger and Monkey discuss the merits and drawbacks of paper trading: is it a useful tool or does it offer false security?

How do poker players and motorcycle enthusiasts train with fear?

What does equanimity mean and how can we cultivate this classic virtue?

When we’re not in control, how can we reframe the bad-beats life throws our way?

The art of mastering yourself is fundamental to investing success. And it all starts with understanding and conquering fear.

Wonderful

Offers a captivating blend of finance and friendship. Whether you're a finance enthusiast or a new investor, this podcast delivers engaging content that educates and entertains in equal measure.

Very fun and informative conversation for investors and market watchers

If you're interested in stock talk with some depth to it -- less daytrading, more discussion of companies with lasting value -- this is a really enjoyable listen. The two hosts have a good relationship with an interesting contrast, almost like an id/superego thing going on -- they are both smart but one is very cautious and logical and one dabbles in crypto, startups and so on and really has his heart in it. I look forward to both their takes on the market, as a long term investor myself who also likes to dabble. They aren't self-promoting or hucksterish either.
