The tears of Federer & Nadal; Laver Cup, Davis Cup review

The tears of Federer & Nadal; Laver Cup, Davis Cup review

We nearly called this the 'ILL PODCAST' because we're all a bit under the weather. However, that's not very enticing is it, and not producing a show was never an option. So Catherine and David (get well soon, Matt) came together to talk about the extraordinarily emotional scenes at Laver Cup, with Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in tears. They also discussed the results of the week, how important they are, and reviewed the week's Tour events, and the Davis Cup group stages from the week before.
For Friends of The Tennis Podcast, three new podcasts (David's Diary, our US Open 2022 review and a Q & A podcast with listeners) are now available, along with another 20 others. Ivan Ljubicic: Coaching, playing and knowing Roger Federer

Ivan Ljubicic: Coaching, playing and knowing Roger Federer

Ivan Ljubicic began coaching Roger Federer in 2016, and did not speak to the media about Federer for the next 6 years. Now, after Federer announced his retirement last week, Ljubicic opens up to David Law about the moments that led to the Swiss deciding it was time to end his career, what happened when Federer asked him to join his coaching team in 2016, the highs and lows that followed, and what it was like to play against him.
For Friends of The Tennis Podcast, two new podcasts (David's Diary and our US Open 2022 review) are now available, and a Q & A podcast between listeners and Catherine, David and Matt will be uploaded today. US Open Day 14: Carlos Alcaraz - the present and the future

US Open Day 14: Carlos Alcaraz - the present and the future

There were special scenes on Sunday night in New York as Carlos Alcaraz beat Casper Ruud to become the youngest US Open men's champion since Pete Sampras in 1990 and the youngest ATP World No.1 ever. Catherine, David and Matt were in the stadium to witness it and they discuss the match and the significance of the moment on the podcast. What made it such an enjoyable match? How did Alcaraz make up for any fatigue he was feeling? And will Ruud have regrets?
Throwing it ahead, are we entering the Alcaraz era? What will Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and the Next Gen challengers be thinking as they watch Alcaraz win this title? And how much better can Alcaraz still get?
There's also chat about the women's doubles final, the inspirational Taylor Townsend, and all the day's wheelchair results.

US Open Day 13 - Swiatek, Jabeur light up New York; Alcarez vs. Ruud - who wins?

Apologies for the delay. We have been experiencing issues with our Tennis Podcast platform provider, which is why your podcast has not been available.
Iga Świątek is the toughest final challenge in tennis. Ons Jabeur rose to that challenge. Catherine, Matt and David, in a car ride and on the streets of New York, look at where the match was won and lost and what it might mean for the future. They also run over the other results on Day 13 and look ahead to the men's singles final.
If you would like to enter our competition to have a chance to win a trip to the Australian Open in January (courtesy of AO Travel), Become a Friend of The Tennis Podcast. You will also get access to more than 20 bonus podcasts.

Essential listening for tennis nerds

The BEST podcast on professional tennis, hands down. Such knowledgeable hosts, who bring humanity and humor to their conversations. If you love watching the professional tour you will love this podcast.

Less enjoyable than it used to be

I used to really love this podcast, it used to be a fun, niche sort of discussion of all things tennis. It’s still pretty good, but as it’s grown more popular I find there are more and more adverts, and the content I used to like best (mostly the relived segments) is paywalled. I don’t mind when the hosts discuss topical matters tangentially related to tennis (e.g., Ukraine, mental health, domestic violence accusations), but they all are inevitably coming from the same point of view that it gets monotonous. I do enjoy Matt’s stats when they come up.

“In the mix”

From the first time I listened to the Tennis Podcast at the beginning of this year after Nadal's heroic AO victory to today (or yesterday, whatever you call the 3:10am amazing insight you gave post Alcaraz/Sinner), it's been a joy and privilege listening to the three of you. As someone who has been in the tennis world most of my life between playing, teaching, and a massive fan, I have never come across better insight and passion for the sport as the three of you display every week (and day at the majors!!). Thank you, thank you, thank you.

To the three of you being "in the mix"-cheers!
