Ep.#26 - Fireside Chat with John Kaltenborn

Introducing my friend and colleague, John Kaltenborn. We have worked together for years on the X Games medical staff and had a chance to sit down and record a conversation while at the 2024 X Games in Aspen.

This is a raw and candid conversation covering some ground. We chat about our personal and professional lives, strengths and flaws, and how we seek to find purpose and balance in taking care of ourselves, while also being caretakers for others.

John shares about the morning routine he's adopted that has helped transformed his life to curate the life he desires for himself and his family.

I have a great deal of respect for John and loved the opportunity to share some of his insights.

Ep.#25- Berserker Built: Saving Veterans and First Responders - Tim DeMaio

Tim DeMaio has served in the Navy for 10 years and then followed up his military career as an overseas contractor. As a result of his experiences in this line of work, he suffered multiple TBI's (traumatic brain injuries), PTSI (post traumatic stress injury), severe migraines, tinnitus, various other traumas and the weight of guilt.

In his quest to heal, he spent the better part of 3 years in and out of the care of brain specialists around the world, and yet nothing worked. He was directed to "The Mission Within", an organization dedicated to saving and healing veterans...

On this podcast, he shares his story of healing and passion of designing skateboards to help others find recovery as well.

Ep.#22- Neuroscience: Battling Invisible Injuries - Kate Pate

Ep.#22- Neuroscience: Battling Invisible Injuries - Kate Pate

It was such a privilege to sit down with Kate Pate, a remarkably intelligent human who uses her superpower in neurophysiology to change lives with her military-specific device company, and also within many non-profit veteran organizations.

Kate is a Ph.D Neurophysiologist, coach, researcher, founder and CEO of her company Corona Medical. She advocates for functional and non-traditional approaches to healing, and helps people find the path that works best for them. Her methods are rooted as much in science as experience, having spend the better part of her own life healing from both visible and invisible injuries.

Ep.#21- "Fireside Chat"- Nick + Anna Bechtold

Ep.#21- "Fireside Chat"- Nick + Anna Bechtold

Nick and Anna Bechtold are co-owners of Bozeman, MT based Movement Physio.

Nick is a Montana native and received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Montana in Missoula, MT in 2015. He also received his Bachelor of Arts in Human Biology from the University of Montana. He is a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and Crossfit Level 1 Trainer. His treatment approach combines skilled, hands-on, manual therapy techniques with personalized exercise programming to help individuals achieve their health and fitness goals and maintain them throughout their lifespan.

Anna also received her Doctorate at University of Montana in Missoula, MT in 2016. She received her Bachelors of Science in Kinesiology at Washington State University. She is Board-Certified Orthopedic Specialist and a Level-1 CrossFit trainer. Anna has additional training and certifications specializing in the fitness athlete, the neck and back, pre and post-partum athletes, and the endurance athlete.

They are partners in business and in life, and we had the opportunity to sit down and discuss the pros and cons of cash-based private practice. The three of us have lots of similarities on how we treat our clientele and how we view returning athletes to the things they love doing in the midst of injury. I loved the chance to talk shop with other practitioners who took similar risks with our career paths.

Listened on the way home and JMac was intuitive in asking the questions that my wife and I were wondering. For example if creating WODs for the group is time consuming and boring, why not pay for them from various outlets? This was asked and answered later in the podcast which was cool to hear her and Brook’s take.
