Ep. 065 How Board Members Are Key To Your Success | Truman Charities 2022 Recap

Those of us who volunteer our time to give back to communities take this job seriously, so our main objective is to reach our goals so we can make a difference.

A successful charity starts with having a solid group of board members, because they set the tone for how the rest of the charity functions.

Each member brings unique experiences and expertise, however the best board is one that is cohesive, like-minded people, who can have fun together! This is the key to any successful charity. If your team is on the same page, then delegating tasks, creating structure, and getting the job done, is a no brainer.

In today’s episode, you will hear Jamie Truman discuss the Truman Charities board members and how they function together, and how they have been able to have their most successful year yet in 2022.

Ep. 064 Did You Know 80% of Inmates Have Been Touched By The Foster Care System? Find Out How Rob Sheer Founder of Comfort Cases is Changing The Foster Care System One Child At A Time

The Truman Charities Podcast featured Rob Scheer, co-founder and CEO of Comfort Cases and author of A Forever Family: Fostering Change One Child at a Time. His harrowing story of growing up in our flawed foster care system touched us so much that we’re sharing his interview again.
You don’t have to know someone to love them, and Rob’s personal journey to fatherhood and helping his community exemplifies that. His mission to give hope and dignity back to foster children is more important than ever, with over 400,000 children currently in foster care in the United States.
Listen to his story to get a glimpse into the issues facing children transitioning in the foster care system, and how we are failing as a society to protect them. Tune in to learn ways you can help!

Ep. 063 Over 300 Homes Built For Disabled Veterans. How Have They Been Able To Gift A Mortgage Free Home Every 11 Days? It All Began After 911 | Building Homes For Heroes

Ep. 063 Over 300 Homes Built For Disabled Veterans. How Have They Been Able To Gift A Mortgage Free Home Every 11 Days? It All Began After 911 | Building Homes For Heroes

“Self-determination and desire to be part of different communities that allows you to blossom well beyond the structure of a house is so critical and central to the organization's mission.”
    - Chloe Sigillito

Having a home encompasses more than just the structure of the house. It represents community, growth, love, and safety. Things we often overlook when we think about home.

This is especially true for veterans who have put their lives on the line for the sake of others, leaving them in vulnerable situations where having a home feels impossible.

One organization understands this fully, and realized they have the ability to change the lives of veterans and their families by giving back to the very people that protect us.

Tony and Chloe Sigillito from Building Homes for Heroes join us on today’s episode to talk to us about how their organization has gifted 300 homes to veterans and their families.

After 9/11, the founding members of Building Homes for Heroes came together with the central mission to give back to veterans, after seeing the increasing number of veterans that were coming home disabled.

This organization started with a goal of gifting one home, and have now celebrated an incredible milestone of their 300th gifted home, mortgage free.

Tune in to today’s episode to hear this incredible story of hope and perseverance, and learn how you can help too!

Ep 062 "A Son With Two Moms" Author Tony Hynes Speaks About His Experience Growing Up With Two White Moms As A Black Child, While Being In Split Custody With His Biological Family

Ep 062 "A Son With Two Moms" Author Tony Hynes Speaks About His Experience Growing Up With Two White Moms As A Black Child, While Being In Split Custody With His Biological Family

The adoption process is a lifelong process, it doesn’t end the day a child is adopted by a family.

This is an important point that is all too often missed. Especially in unique cases where a child is placed into split custody with their biological family and interracial and LGBTQ headed family.

Our guest on today’s episode lived this reality, and found many of the struggles he went through were not understood or acknowledged. Tony Hynes, author of The Son With Two Moms, and training specialist at The Center for Adoption Support and Education, also known as C.A.S.E, joins us to share his story of growing up with two white moms as a Black child, while being in split custody with his biological family.

Tony’s mission is to spread awareness around adoption to change people’s perceptions regarding adoption, and to shed light on the unique unseen issues that arise throughout an adoptee’s lifespan. Issues such as interracial adoption situations, as well as being adopted by LGBTQ parents and split adoption with biological families.

In this episode, you will hear Tony’s journey growing up in an interracial and queer headed household as well as the type of counselling C.A.S.E. offers and the impact they’ve had on families.

Ep. 061 Saving Dogs From Kill Shelters | Lonely Hearts Animal Rescue

Take a second to imagine an animal rescue center. Are you seeing the workers playing with puppies all day, smiling from ear to ear from all the doggie cuteness? This is just one misconception about rescue centers, and today’s guests will be addressing more.
On this episode of The Truman Charities Podcast, you’ll hear from Nancy Maddox and Jenn Rush of Lonely Hearts Animal Rescue. These ladies are on a mission to rescue puppies from kill shelters, give them a healthy environment, and change the mentality of dog owners.
One way they’re accomplishing their goals is by streamlining their adoption process, making it a lot easier and faster to get dogs into loving homes and free up space at their rescue. Lonely Hearts Animal Rescue also has a foster network, and an adoption center/event space called Wagsmore Adopt & Shop.
To hear about memorable pups from Nancy and Jenn, and to learn how you can join Lonely Hearts Animal Rescue’s mission, tune in to this episode!

Now called the ChadTough Defeat DIPG Foundation after a merger, they’re focused on increasing recognition and funding research to find a cure.

Listen to this episode to learn about Jenny's families journey with DIPG, how YOU can help by buying tickets to their upcoming gala or getting involved in their foundation.
