Come for the Movie Talk, Leave for the Side of Politics

I was excited when I recently searched the Apple podcast app to see if any film podcasts had covered “The Late Shift,” a 1996 film that covered the late night wars that went down between Leno and Letterman after Carson retired. Great film in my estimation. In the 4+ hour long episode (yep, you read that right!) the hosts discussed the movie about a total of 20 minutes, and filled the rest of the time with their political opinions. My favorite parts included: * Their stirring and deeply intellectual comments about sitting back and “watching all capitalists take each other out” (apparently ignorant to the fact that, while they might see themselves as “screwing the man” renegades, their podcast is on two of the most capitalist-centric platforms in existence.) * All Conservatives are bad. They’re not exactly sure why. They just are. It said so in their “How to host a screw the man podcast” pamphlet. *Trump evil mentioned? Check. *Middle class privilege mentioned? Check. And so on and so on…would’ve like to have heard a nice, 1-1.5 hour episode of these boys discussing the actual movie, plot, actors, etc. Instead, I was treated to a four hour slog of two self-important millennial windbags. You CAN have a podcast about films that is still relevant and topical, gents, without coming off as moralizing stereotypes. I suggest listening to “The Rewatchables” to see how it’s done.
Very good podcast
