    Episode 144 • Be Resilient

Collectively, the Veterans Service Alliance, of which The Warrior's Journey is a part, serves around 1 million veterans each year. In this episode, we continue to highlight our partners with VSA co-chair Dr. Damon Friedman!
Damon is the president of SOF Missions, which helps at risk veterans by providing whole health care plans that support wellness and resiliency. He received his commission in 2000 as a United States Marine Corps Officer and later transferred into the Air Forces elite as a Special Warfare Officer. After 20 years including four combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan in support of the Global War on Terrorism he retired. His personal decorations include three Bronze Stars (one with Valor) and the Air Force Combat Action Medal. His new book, Igniting Movements, provides a model for building effective movements, inspiring people to come together under a singular vision to make the world a better place.

    Episode 143 • Honor, Hope & Healing

    Episode 143 • Honor, Hope & Healing

As we continue to highlight our partners in the Veterans Service Alliance, a group of non-profit organizations coming together to make a global impact in the fight against veteran suicide, we're shining the spotlight on Engage Your Destiny, led by CEO Ben Peterson.
Ben spent 8 years in the Army, deploying to Iraq during the surge in 2008. His time in a Combat Aviation Brigade was challenged by fellow soldiers killed in action, suicide, and tragic civilian casualties. After battling post traumatic stress, alcohol dependency and family issues, Ben turned to his faith, community, counseling and recreation to recover from the traumatic experiences of combat. The power of Ben’s story is his ability to bring authenticity and honesty while breaking down the of core principles of resiliency.
In the beginning of 2016 he felt the call to start a mission to help veterans and their families heal from their experiences. This call led to the fulfillment of a vision Ben had to bring honor, hope and healing to Vietnam Veterans, as 35,000 people gathered at the Daytona International Speedway in May of 2022 for the Heroes Honor Festival. 10,000 Vietnam Veterans were welcomed home, 1,200 enrolled in PTSD programs, and hundreds more found healing.

    Episode 142 • Get Up!

    Episode 142 • Get Up!

Continuing our series with other members of the Veterans Service Alliance, a group of non-profit organizations coming together to make a global impact in the fight against veteran suicide, we welcome Vice President of the Roever Foundation John Arroyo (USA, Ret) to the podcast!
John, a 20-year Army veteran, joined the military because he needed a change and felt the military would help him find control of his life. He expected to complete three years, gain a skill, and go home, but the Army had different plans for him. John became a Special Forces Green Beret and highly decorated officer after completing three combat deployments (two to Afghanistan and one to Iraq) while serving his country.
After returning from his final deployment, he was assigned to a medical unit at Fort Hood in Texas. On April 2, 2014, while he was on duty, a service member went on a rampage shooting 19 service members, including John who was shot in the neck and nearly lost his life.
He hopes to use his scars and story to help anyone in need from taking their life and to be a living testament that there is hope and a future no matter your situation. John and his wife, Angel, currently live in San Antonio, TX where they both work at the Roever Foundation. In January 2020, John published his first book, Attacked at Home: A Green Beret’s Survival Story of the Fort Hood Shooting.
Founded by renown Vietnam Veteran Dave Roever, the Roever Foundation exists to create pathways for those who feel lost and hopeless to find their way home. More information about the Roever Foundation can be found at https://www.roeverfoundation.org/.

Episode 141 • Returning Healthy Veterans to America

Episode 141 • Returning Healthy Veterans to America

As we kick off a new series highlighting partner organizations, we welcome Major General Bob Dees (US Army, Ret.) back to the podcast, who serves as President of the Board for the National Center for Healthy Veterans.
Our veterans have pledged their lives for our freedom, security, and prosperity. Healthy veterans are productive members of society, good employees, and positive role models, but not all of our veterans are healthy – more veterans have committed suicide in the past 10 years than the number of combat deaths in the Vietnam War. Our veterans need America, and America needs healthy veterans.
The National Center for Healthy Veterans is a comprehensive scalable solution and a unique strategic initiative that will have national impact and return healthy veterans to America.
Bob served thirty-one years as an infantry officer, a senior military leader and strategist, and Commander of the 2d Infantry Division in Korea, and the US-Israeli Combined Task Force for Missile Defense.  Following the military, he served in business at Microsoft, in non-profit leadership, and in academia as a VP for military outreach at Liberty University and founder of the Liberty Institute for Military Resilience.
In 2015 and 2016, he served as national security advisor and chairman for Dr. Ben Carson's Presidential Campaign. Bob has authored five books including the Resilience Trilogy and the Resilience God Style series. He was also featured as one of 30 “Master Leaders in America” by noted author George Barna and was awarded the Council for National Policy George Washington Military Leadership Award in 2018.
To find out more about Bob's work at the National Center for Healthy Veterans, visit https://www.healthyveterans.org/, and to hear more from Bob, check out Episodes 49 and 50 of the podcast!

    Episode 140 • The 5 Masculine Instincts (Part 5)

    Episode 140 • The 5 Masculine Instincts (Part 5)

At its best, independence leads men to think for themselves and to develop deep personal convictions. But the instinct also has a tendency to lead men toward isolation and apathy.
Chase and Kevin come together for one last conversation on masculinity, discussing the tendency men have to veer into apathy and how they can ultimately find a healthy middle ground between ignoring and indulging their instincts.
Chase Replogle – author of The 5 Masculine Instincts – is a bi-vocational pastor who holds a degree in Biblical Studies and an M.A. in New Testament. He hosts the weekly Pastor Writer Podcast (pastorwriter.com), interviewing pastors and authors on writing, reading, and the Christian Life.
The 5 Masculine Instincts is now availble everywhere books are sold. Take the Instinct Assessment at https://the5masculineinstincts.com/.

Awesome podcast for Warriors & families!

I love this podcast! I've followed The Warrior's Journey and benefitted from the articles on their website, and I've enjoyed listening to the podcast. My husband and I are dual military, and we've both gleaned a lot of wisdom about military life from listening. I can't wait to listen to the next episodes!
