Smart Conversations About Anime

The Wave Motion Cannon crew do some of the finest editorial work in the anime blogging sphere. They present throughful, smart takes on often under-appreciated topics like the relationship between visuals and narrative, the principles of animation, and animation history. Their podcast is a wonderful auditorial manifestion of their Wave Motion Conversations feature, where they have a roundtable discussion about some of the most relevant and interesting topics, series, and films sparking discourse in the community.

Suffice to say everyone on the podcast knows their stuff and contributes an interesting perspective in every discussion they're apart of. Their takes on contentious news like the dissolution of Nyaatorrent, the New York Times article on Crunchyroll, Kurt Eichenwald's hentai tweets, and Anime Strike are easily the most civil, well-informed and well-rounded conversations on these topics that's ever been said. Their analysis of series and films is always interesting as well. They approach analysis in a constructive way, highlighting both the strengths and faults of everything they discuss no matter whether they liked or disliked it overall. Even if you don't agree with someone's perspective, they always make solid arguments for their positions and articulate them in intelligent and understandable ways.

Wave Motion Cannon is one of the best anime blogs, so it's no surprise that their podcast is one of the best anime podcasts as well. Definitely a must-listen if you're passionate about this medium and want to listen to fresh, substantial conversations about anime and anime fan culture. Plus, they made an entire bonus episode just to answer my questions about My Brother's Husband, which makes them pretty cool dudes in my book. Support them on Patreon so you can have your questions answered too!
