Episode 139 : The Path to Normal

Nick welcomes back Jake and Alex back to the show this week! We start off by talking about pro wrestling… yeah, I know right? Jake asks what we’re drinking, and he talks a bit more about Fort Point Beer Co. and how they’re his new fridge beer. Nick rampages on 12oz beers. Nick talks about his birthday week and celebrating with craft beer between Cinderlands brunch and the Foederhouse reopening and Pennsylvania removing some of the more strict restrictions with COVID. Jake shares his experience with California’s COVID restrictions. Alex then shares his experience with a new to the podcast brewery, Mastic Trail Brewing. Nick drops some news about Necromancer and then talks about breweries getting back to service. Alex asks what we think line culture will look like as we start to get back to normal. To wrap up, we hint at things to come, including but not limited to another collab episode with Fueled By Hops at the end of April! Thanks again for listening! We love you, good night!

    Episode 138 : A Proper Freakout

Alex is back, and he brought Nick along for Nick’s birthday week special! Happy Easter/Passover/whatever else you celebrate in spring! We start off talking podcasts and annoying apple commercials. Our first actual topic is Fish Fry’s in Pittsburgh on Fridays in Lent. Topics include church fish fry’s and McDonalds and local restaurants! Nick makes a good transition for once and we talk about the reopening of Pennsylvania. Nick went to the Pens game on Monday and shares his “beer and food” story and we reminisce about the DG Garden reopening for spring and drooling over Cilantro Y Ajo food truck. We talk Grist House and Cinderlands Brunch and rage about American cheese. Nick then has a full on freakout about Dave from Four Points recognizing him from the podcast (Hi Dave! Thanks for listening!) and then we get into their new spot and what is in store at the Northside taproom. We wrap up talking about Nick’s birthday and who to support if you want to give him a birthday gift (donate to afsp.org or anywhere worthwhile to you). Cheers and thanks for listening!

    The Weekly Re-Cap 3/19/21 : Brewketology

    Episode 137 : Brewketology

Nick and Jake are back after a week hiatus. Jake introduces Narrative Fermentations to the podcast as his new love of San Jose. Nick is drinking Abjuration and going for sours on this episode. We discuss the idea of the beer you can relate to what you enjoy, and sours are not it, for us. This conversation leads us to the “what sells” part of the industry and we expand on what beers bring people in and why you still need to develop your brand. Nick makes an incredible segue and Jake takes his shots while we talk about supposably being a word now. After our Fueled By Hops plug, Nick hits you with the craft beer news. The rest of the episode focuses on being on the pulse with content. We bring you our elite 8 of breweries we’ve been to, and put them into matchups against each other. These match ups are too hard to explain in text, just listen to our segment here. Thanks again for listening! Weigh in with your favorite elite 8 brewery!

The Weekly Re-Cap 3/2/21 : The Logan Hammercock Hour

Episode 136 : The Logan Hammercock Hour

Nick and Alex welcome fellow podcaster Logan Hammercock to the podcast this week. Logan joins into the the craft beer conversation even though he’s not really a “craft beer guy.” Coffee takes over and Logan tells his story of his first black coffee (hint, it’s not a great time). Logan keeps us positive as we talk about the pandemic and tattoos. Alex goes in on Nick for being unfunny and then we transition to talking about our margarita preferences. We rage about Crocs for minute. Alex brings up Marvel movies and we go down the rabbit hole. Logan gets into his liquor cabinet and we invite him to expand his beer knowledge. Logan takes a hardline and says to tip your bartender and tip them very well, 20% is not enough. This created a conversation about reviews and leaving feedback. Logan coins the term “anypiece nugget” after his experience at McDonald’s. As we wrap up, Nick gives the shout outs and Alex praises him for his continued social media presence. Go follow our guest @loganhammercock on instagram! Cheers and thanks for listening!

The Weekly Re-Cap 2/25/21 : The Dinner Party

Episode 135 : The Dinner Party

Alex and Nick are back for a week where we kind of stay on topic. We start by talking about winter! From there we discuss the reopening of America and shout out Trace Brewing for opening for on-site consumption this week. We touch on Zelienople’s troubles with open alcohol containers on borough grounds. We go in-depth with our favorite Food Network shows and what we love about food competition shows. Nick talks about Shubrew’s can club. Alex talks about his experience at Eleventh Hour. Fueled by Hops takes over the conversation with #waxwednesday and #TIPAthursday and then we get into a very important discussion on glassware. Alex learns some things about glassware and the glassware community. After glassware, Nick introduces a segment about what you bring to dinner at a friend’s house and this basically drives the rest of the episode. Obviously we lean on the “craft beer” aspect but this conversation keeps us guessing the whole time. We wrap up this episode with a shoutout to Hop Culture. (Juicy Brews 420 coming soon!) We wrap with the normal shoutouts and a good ole cheers! Thanks for listening!

TeamAlexFromWeeklyRecap ,

It’s so good, it makes me cry.

Just kidding... sort of. Nick, Alex and Jake are equal part funny, informative and entertaining. I’ve laughed so hard I’ve cried on certain episodes. Check out the drunk episodes for some hilarious content. Best beer podcast out there.

That’s nice and all... but would you drink with them?

I’m not a huge podcast listener and maybe that’s because I’m old and crotchety. Ok. Fair. But I’ll listen to Nick et al when I’m folding laundry or doing something else unpleasant and they make it better. I guess what more could you ask from any entertainment medium? Again, not a huge resume of podcast listens but I’m sure some have oodles of post-production lavished on them and that’s cool. But I find myself talking back to my phone like I’m there with them and that I equate with a relatability that I don’t see in most mediums. If you’re wondering what’s going on in the Pittsburgh beer scene with all the warts and blemishes, you could certainly do worse. So yeah. I’d drink with these fools.

Alex put it best when he so brilliantly stated: “It’s prime time for craft beer, and it’s very exciting”. (Podcast 37: 18:34)
Through this platform, lovers of the industry can listen in as fellow craft beer enthusiasts sample the city’s best offerings while engaging in interesting light-hearted banter.
Not only are these guys knowledgeable, but they are relatable and engaging.
10/10 - would crack open a couple of
IPAs with these dudes.
