The Weekly Re-Cap 2/25/21 : The Dinner Party

Episode 135 : The Dinner Party

Alex and Nick are back for a week where we kind of stay on topic. We start by talking about winter! From there we discuss the reopening of America and shout out Trace Brewing for opening for on-site consumption this week. We touch on Zelienople’s troubles with open alcohol containers on borough grounds. We go in-depth with our favorite Food Network shows and what we love about food competition shows. Nick talks about Shubrew’s can club. Alex talks about his experience at Eleventh Hour. Fueled by Hops takes over the conversation with #waxwednesday and #TIPAthursday and then we get into a very important discussion on glassware. Alex learns some things about glassware and the glassware community. After glassware, Nick introduces a segment about what you bring to dinner at a friend’s house and this basically drives the rest of the episode. Obviously we lean on the “craft beer” aspect but this conversation keeps us guessing the whole time. We wrap up this episode with a shoutout to Hop Culture. (Juicy Brews 420 coming soon!) We wrap with the normal shoutouts and a good ole cheers! Thanks for listening!

Episode 133 : The Cup Spilleth Over

Welcome to a filler episode! Nick, Jake and Alex are back and bringing our complaints and random conversations to you! We started off with the beers we’re drinking this week since all of us are drinking! Opening topics include video games, Jake’s butt chin, and TikTok. Nick breaks down why shipping beer to PA is stupid and he rages about term limits and alcohol laws. We talk about shipping and getting beer outside of your local market and what local breweries are doing to get their product out there in the current environment. Jake shifts to our conversation to Groundhog’s Day and Punxy Phil and asks us what beer we’d drink with Phil the Groundhog. We learned a lot about groundhogs during this conversation. Jake keeps us on track with another segment and wants to know what spring beers we’re looking forward to in the coming months. We then shift to a discussion on lagers and crispybois. In stark comparison, Nick talks a lot about Cellarworks’ Puff’d beer. This throws us into a glassware conversation and pirate podcasting at Industrial Arts. We unveil our new rating system for beers. To round out the episode we talk about beer abuse and the wild things instagrammers do to beer to get the perfect shot for the ‘gram. Thanks again for listening and don’t spill the beer just for a picture, drink it!

The Weekly Re-Cap 2/2/21 : The House Down Boots

Episode 132 : The House Down Boots

Alex, Jake, and Nick get back together this week and we are talking about hand lotion. Yeah, it was a weird intro this week. Nick talks about Southern Tier Pittsburgh’s visitor this past week. From there we get into some crazy flavors and collabs while we discuss the Ranch Dressing beer from Martin House in Texas. This launches us into a condiment conversation and awkward coworkers, wrapping up with our savory beer thoughts. We go down the path of Southern Tier and their craft cocktail program, after a little bit of bashing the one-off beers they make in Pittsburgh. Jake made a move and shouts out anyone who wants to send him free alcohol. We cover the beers we drank next. Nick talks way too much about Watershed which he knows nothing about. After Nick tries to read, we talk about our most recent guests and how impressed we were with both Ryan from Fueled By Hops and Tyler from Creekside Beer. The last segment of this episode focuses on “The Big Game” and Valentine’s Day. Nick asks what we’re drinking for the Super Bowl and what your beer/food pairings would be for Valentine’s Day. Thanks again for listening! Like and subscribe and review!

Episode 131 BONUS : Tyler Wanted a Bonus Episode

Jake and Nick are joined by Tyler to talk about the off podcast stuff. Jake bitches about Dry January. Then he gets salty because Nick got a PS5 and we talk about what price Nick would sell his for to make it worth it. Jake drops off shortly after cause his phone is from 2016, but Nick and Tyler talk about Star Wars and retro consoles and the great gifts of Christmas. Nick asks Tyler about his quarantine and what TV shows changed his quarantine life. Tyler and Nick debate the finer points of Gilmore Girls and it pretty much takes over the rest of the bonus episode. After the Gilmore Girls conversation, Tyler talks about his friends who trade beer with him at Creekside. We discuss the beers we drank and it takes us down a path about local versus national craft beer. As we wrap up we talk about big beer and consistency among craft beer. Nick was very impressed with Tyler’s customer experience and this launches us into some wild customer service stories. From there we talk hype releases and how to better your business. TeamAlexFromWeeklyRecap ,

It’s so good, it makes me cry.

Just kidding... sort of. Nick, Alex and Jake are equal part funny, informative and entertaining. I’ve laughed so hard I’ve cried on certain episodes. Check out the drunk episodes for some hilarious content. Best beer podcast out there.

That’s nice and all... but would you drink with them?

I’m not a huge podcast listener and maybe that’s because I’m old and crotchety. Ok. Fair. But I’ll listen to Nick et al when I’m folding laundry or doing something else unpleasant and they make it better. I guess what more could you ask from any entertainment medium? Again, not a huge resume of podcast listens but I’m sure some have oodles of post-production lavished on them and that’s cool. But I find myself talking back to my phone like I’m there with them and that I equate with a relatability that I don’t see in most mediums. If you’re wondering what’s going on in the Pittsburgh beer scene with all the warts and blemishes, you could certainly do worse. So yeah. I’d drink with these fools.

Alex put it best when he so brilliantly stated: “It’s prime time for craft beer, and it’s very exciting”. (Podcast 37: 18:34)
Through this platform, lovers of the industry can listen in as fellow craft beer enthusiasts sample the city’s best offerings while engaging in interesting light-hearted banter.
