Today’s episode takes inspiration from various Stoic sources, as well as Oliver Burkeman’s excellent book Four Thousand Weeks, to show how it’s possible to zoom out from our own troubles and get a better perspective on them.
Doing this can, as Burkeman puts it, help us to drop back down from "godlike fantasies of cosmic significance into the experience of life as it concretely, finitely – and often enough, marvelously – really is."

One of the best Stoicism podcasts out there
I really enjoy Allan’s succinct, thoughtful guidance and teachings on Stoic philosophy. He had a knack for taking centuries old Stoic writings and principles and showing how they can perfectly be used by us today and timelessly really to help us be truly happy and at peace.
I also appreciate his shout outs to @JonBrooks and his @TheStoicHandbook podcast and other content.
I’m enjoying learning and improving with both Allan and Jon.
Chop wood. Carry water.
Lots of hot takes on these teachings, I’ve enjoyed this podcast more than most. Not a hard sell for other products, that speaks to me.
Excellent interview!
Great podcast for getting informed on Stoicism!
